“পুজোর গন্ধ” (pujor gondho) is such a distinctly Bengali idea. It isn’t really one particular smell; it’s the feeling that Pujo has arrived, carried through a collection of familiar scents and memories.
The smell of shiuli flowers, incense and dhuno, fresh clothes, wet earth after the monsoon, food cooking in the neighbourhood, and that particular autumn air.
But pujor gondho is also emotional. It’s the smell of homecoming, of streets getting dressed up, of familiar songs playing somewhere in the distance, of seeing people you haven’t seen in a year, of waking up early for anjali. For Bengalis living away from home, that smell can become even more powerful because it carries a whole place with it.

I am working on my next menu keeping all this in mind and more :) something coming up soon :)

No alcohol. On purpose for this menu.

September’s menu is my way of enjoying the last few lingering days of summer in Toronto WITH YOU! before the air turns crisp and the season begins to change.
This menu moves deliberately between hot and cold, creating a rhythm that is both familiar and, I hope, a little unexpected. 😬
This will also be a non-alcoholic tasting experience. Fermented and vinegar-forward elements are central to the menu, and alcohol can interfere with the delicate acidity, fermentation, and nuances of these flavours. I want the experience to be about the food in its clearest form. Nothing competing with it, and nothing masking its subtleties.

This has been a long time coming.
The truth is, I was going through a bit of a rough patch personally, and finding the headspace to plan a tasting night just wasn’t easy. But through it all, I really, really missed hosting.
I’m so excited to finally say that the next tasting night date will be announced very soon.
This menu, quite literally, demanded my blood, sweat, and tears. 😆 I can’t wait to share it with you.

What can you expect at one of my suppers?
Honestly, I’ve never been someone who can strictly follow recipes or precise measurements. I like cooking instinctively — boldly, emotionally. chasing flavours that remind me of home, a fleeting memory, or sometimes a place I once travelled through and never quite left behind.
Every dish begins somewhere personal. For example, this one is an ode to two of my favourite food worlds colliding on the same plate.
And while I deeply respect authentic flavours and traditional recipes, I’m equally drawn to the possibilities that emerge in between. The unexpected combinations. The quiet synergies we may not have considered before.
Maybe that’s also reflective of the world we live in now, layered, evolving, constantly borrowing and becoming. Don’t you think?
