Join us at Silver Strand State Beach for a day of yoga, hiking, swimming, sharing a meal, sunset bonfire, and more!

We are creating a wellness event that centers and uplifts people that have been historically left out of the wellness industry. We all deserve healing and rest! Let’s take up space together!

Enjoy a full day of yoga, nature, and play with queer and trans community (qtibipoc folks centered). This local retreat is from 11am to 7pm and includes:
• 2 yoga classes taught next to the ocean by Meesha Sharma and Sola Habibi
• A scenic hike with spectacular beach views
• Beach play, fun games, and ocean swimming
• Lunch and dinner catered by local small
BIPOC owned businesses
• Sunset bonfire and closing ritual

It is has been such a joy to share yoga at @thebrownbuildingarts every Friday. As we continue to awaken as a collective and organize to keep each other safe, it is imperative that we take time to rest and recharge; this is why I share the medicine of decolonial yoga.

We made this video to remind people that loudly naming that we center marginalized people in our work does not mean that we are being exclusionary, hateful, or biased. Seer: “Tum yahan ke nahi ho... Kaun ho tum?” (You are not from here... Who are you?)

Asoka: “Main? Main ek sadharan yatri.”
(Me? I am a simple traveler.)

Seer: “Sadharan? Suraj badal ke pichhe chhup jaye, toh bhi uski dhuup nahi chhuptee. Tumhara bhagya kehta hai tum sadharan nahi ho.”
(Simple? Even if the sun hides behind a cloud, its sunshine cannot be hidden. Your destiny says you are not ordinary.) 
Asoka: “Achha? Kya kehta hai mera bhagya?” Ki mein aak rajkumar banoge... singhasan par baithoge... poore rajya ka samrat banoge!”
(Oh? What does my destiny say? That I will become a prince... sit upon the throne... and become the emperor of the entire realm!)

Seer: “Samrat bhi sadharan hote hain.”
(Emperors are ordinary too.)

Asoka: “Samrat se uncha? Samrat se uncha kiska bhagya hota hai?”
(Higher than an emperor? Whose destiny is higher than an emperor’s?)

Seer: “Ek yatri ka... jab woh apni yatra poori karta hai.”
(A traveler’s... when he completes his journey.)

As diaspora kids we have a unique opportunity to synthesize our identity crisis into a new way of being. It is our responsibility to keep our culture alive within us while finding ways to stay safe in a system that others us. We acknowledge the privilege we have to leave harmful parts of the culture in the past, and the deep pain we carry when we see our culture being watered down by ignorant people. It is a communal effort to keep culture alive in a system that is seeking to erase anything that looks or sounds different from the dominant culture.

Meet our amazing teachers for the Nourished in Nature ~ Beach Yoga Retreat on Oct 24th at Silver Strand Beach in San Diego:)!!

Meesha is a diasporic Kashmiri and Punjabi activist, yoga teacher, artist, catalyst, spiritual seeker, and community organizer who comes from a sampradāya (lineage) of yogis. Their Punjabi ancestors worked closely with studying the Vedas and their Kashmiri ancestors are direct descendants of Nath Yogis. Through lived experience and direct spiritual experience, they continue this lineage of spiritual seeking. They have dedicated their work to ancestral healing, queering yoga land, and creating more inclusive and diverse wellness spaces. Meesha believes communal care is the path to co-creating a paradigm shift on Earth towards more justice and peace for all. They are the founder of Alchemystic Studio, a multi time grant funded yoga movement rooted in collective liberation, ancestral wisdom, and decolonial embodiment.

Sola Habibi is a wellness entrepreneur, community organizer, and emerging author dedicated to cultivating healing spaces for QT+BIPOC communities. Their work integrates writing, yoga, and forest bathing to foster collective well-being. They run programs such as Forest Yoga and Yoga for Organizers, immersive experiences that promote resilience, connection, and land stewardship. Sola has devoted 15 years to the practice of yoga, and in 2023 completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Goa, India. Drawing from Hatha, Ashtanga, and Restorative lineages, Sola integrates philosophy as well as postures into each session. With knowledge from their 50 Hr Accessible YTT, they design classes that meet the specific needs of the students present. Born in Ecuador and raised in Marin County, Sola is a non-binary Palestinian, Ecuadorian, and Italian queer living in the Bay Area.

having access to education is a privilege… this is why there are so many people fighting to create access to education in the global south. we’ve created a new niche of education through social media woke culture where some have access to know the latest language and others are left behind or cancelled for saying the wrong thing. there comes a point where people with privilege forget that they’re even perpetuating systems of harm. honestly, I feel like a lot of my gripes with the left is how many people are reacting from white or brahmin guilt and then using the tools that we had growing up: worshiping books, philosophy, discourse to try to unlearn the harm… but the oppressors house can’t be dismantled with the oppressors tools yall. social media rewards people for deregulating nervous systems and arguing with mob mentality.

as someone with caste privilege I’m thankful people want to hear what I have to say and even learn from me here, and I also know it’s my job to put those words into actual action on the ground in my community.

What happens when you gather a group of queer desi people in a city like San Diego? I’ll tell you: amazing food, enriching conversation, and new connections made!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out yesterday. Our potluck was nourishing in so many ways. In a city that refuses to center us, we will find one another, and join in our shared mission towards a more just future.
