Paulina wants to add that she acknowledges her own white/light skin privilege.

We made this video to remind people that loudly naming that we center marginalized people in our work does not mean that we are being exclusionary, hateful, or biased. In order to create truly inclusive spaces, we need to shift power and privilege away from systems of harm and back to the People. Did this video make you think in any new way? Leave a comment below!

As diaspora kids we have a unique opportunity to synthesize our identity crisis into a new way of being. It is our responsibility to keep our culture alive within us while finding ways to stay safe in a system that others us. We acknowledge the privilege we have to leave harmful parts of the culture in the past, and the deep pain we carry when we see our culture being watered down by ignorant people. It is a communal effort to keep culture alive in a system that is seeking to erase anything that looks or sounds different from the dominant culture.

Support our work at @alchemystic_studio for group and one-on-one yoga, and @romaniholistic for psychic readings and spiritual advising.

Patterns on fabric, it’s not that deep….or is it? We can trace a lot of modern fashion “innovation” to a deep history of colonization.

Follow Paulina and Meesha to learn more about their work in cultural preservation. We love to share decolonial information and practices that come from our lineages.

San Diego! Would you like to support BIPOC owned business in our city, and even more specifically a Romani owned spiritual shop and a Desi (Indian-American) yoga teacher?

It’s rare that we see descendants of lineages stewarding medicines from their cultures. Too often we see our practices appropriated and sold back in a watered down form. If our work interests you, be sure to book a reading with Paulina, and/or a 1-1 yoga session with Meesha. DM us for more info!

Kali Ma has never belonged neatly inside borders. 🖤🔥

As Romani ancestors migrated westward from the Indian subcontinent roughly 1,000 years ago, they carried pieces of South Asian language, culture, ritual, music, and spiritual memory with them.

Across centuries of migration, persecution, and survival, those traditions transformed. As Romani communities were often pressured to assimilate into Christian Europe, older spiritual practices became layered with Christian imagery, saints, and traditions.

One fascinating example is the devotion surrounding Sara-la-Kâli (“Sara the Black”) among some Romani communities.

This begs the question: What happens to sacred stories when people are displaced from their homeland?

Sometimes they hide inside new names and symbols where fragments of ancestral memory survive across a thousand years of movement.

Perhaps part of decolonial practice is learning how to look for what survived. 🖤

“If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn’t have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.”
