Help raise thousands for Alder Hey with a Pyjama Day! 🫶

Alder Hey is encouraging people to keep comfy this month and help them create ‘happier and healthier futures’ for its young patients.

The hospital’s charity is asking friends, families, colleagues, classmates and communities to make a difference throughout October by hosting their very own Alder Hey PJ Day.

Its aim is to raise vital funds for the city’s children’s hospital and coincides with the launch of the latest Alder Hey x Matalan pyjama collection!

❤️What a difference a year makes❤️

This time last year, Arabella was at Alder Hey in her Matalan PJs, waiting for a heart transplant 💫

One year on, and 11-year-old Arabella is back, but in her new Matalan PJs with her new heart beating strong and standing with the same amazing nurses by her side 🫶

A reminder of just how far she’s come 😍 We couldn’t love this more 💗💗💗

Now it’s Romily’s turn to shine as one of our Matalan x Alder Hey stars 💙

Romily was four when her school noticed she was falling frequently and walking differently. After being referred to Alder Hey, she was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and needed major reconstructive surgery.

Her recovery was a huge challenge. Romily spent two months unable to get out of bed before beginning physiotherapy and learning to walk again.

With the support of her Alder Hey team, she returned to the gymnastics and cheerleading she loved and has since gone on to compete internationally, including at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida 🎖️

Carly, Romily’s mum, said: “From day one our journey with Alder Hey has been amazing, really personable from the people who used to bring our breakfast in the morning to our consultant, we’ve had such a caring and compassionate journey.” 💕 by @alderhey_inspired

Harriet’s taking centre stage as one of our Matalan x Alder Hey stars 💙

Harriet has been cared for by Alder Hey since she was a baby and was later diagnosed with Behçet’s Syndrome, a rare inflammatory condition that can cause significant pain and problems with the joints.

At times, Harriet’s condition has left her unable to walk and needing crutches, but Alder Hey’s rheumatology, physiotherapy and psychology teams have worked closely with her family to help her manage her condition and keep doing what she loves.

Today, with ongoing treatment, Harriet is doing really well and continues to dance and cheer alongside her best friend and fellow Matalan x Alder Hey star, Romily 🙂

Heather, Harriet’s mum, said: “The team at Alder Hey know her not just as a diagnosis but as a person. Dancing and cheer is such a massive part of her life and without Alder Hey, that wouldn’t be possible.” by @alderhey_inspired

Meet Rivan and his family 😎💙

Say hello to Rivan, another little star of our Matalan x Alder Hey campaign 💙

Rivan became critically ill after developing pneumonia, a collapsed lung and an empyema, which is a serious infection around the lung.

As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Alder Hey by blue-light ambulance, where he underwent emergency surgery and spent time in the High Dependency Unit.

It was an incredibly frightening time for the whole family, but Rivan gradually began to recover under the care of the Alder Hey team and was able to return home in time for Christmas.

Today, he is thriving and a happy, healthy little boy enjoying life with his sisters 💕

Lucy, Rivan’s mum, said: “It was a traumatic time for Rivan, but Alder Hey were just brilliant and they couldn’t do any more for you.” by @alderhey_inspired
