‘Untitled (Slide Projection for Aléa)’ from Yair Oelbaum’s solo exhibition ‘In The Hopper’.

‘[…] I hope you throw things out at their right time. Maybe it’s the exact right time for me to find them. It is impossible to pack in, pack out…we all leave a trace. The natural world leaves its trace too. Your trace becomes my history. No, not treasure. More of a flavor of the week style infatuation. I will watch it wither on my table, become dry, become brittle, break off into new pieces, perhaps giving way to new form.

But in the end it will see the same fate too. To decompose in the landfill, or the backyard, or to slowly droop or shrivel in a box or on the table’s surface.’ — Yair Oelbaum

Gyan Panchal’s exhibition ‘l’allègement’ remains open until December 20, by appointment.

[…] ‘When Gyan cuts open the stomach of a water collector, sands the torso of a slide, he produces these gestures of reduction and remodeling that reconfigure our relationship to the sensible. He suggests that our affection for something depends on our inclination to project a degree of invention and imagination into its representation. How does the sight of the slide lying on the ground affect me ? Is it its familiar form that acts as a marker of memory ? Or rather, the image of the slide is no longer considered to be upheld (its verticality has fallen), referring to something other than itself : a distinct sign in the profusion of formes in the landscape.

For him the act of transformation is alleviating: he discovers, welcomes, cuts, sands, paints. And with this he relieves, sheds the form of a part from itself.’ — Jeanne Turpault

L’exposition de Gyan Panchal, l’allègement, reste visible jusqu’au 20 décembre sur rendez-vous.

« […] Quand Gyan découpe le ventre d’un récupérateur d’eau, ponce le torse d’un toboggan, il produit des gestes de réduction et de remodelage qui reconfigurent notre rapport au sensible. Il suggère que notre affection pour une chose dépend de notre inclination à projeter une part d’invention et d’imagination dans sa représentation. En quoi la vue de ce toboggan couché au sol me touche ? Est-ce sa forme familière qui agît comme le marqueur du souvenir ? Ou bien, l’image du toboggan qui justement ne tient plus (sa verticalité a chuté), renvoie à autre chose qu’à lui-même : un signe distinct dans la profusion des formes du paysage.

Chez lui, l’acte de transformation est allègement : il trouve, accueille, lave, découpe, ponce, peint. Et par là il soulage, déleste la forme d’une partie d’elle-même. » — Jeanne Turpault

Yair Oelbaum’s exhibition ‘In The Hopper’ remains open until December 20, by appointment.

‘[…] In The Hopper centers around a slide projection of 50 macro photographs taken between 2014 and 2022. A static projection of a foundational 2012 photo is cast on the opposing side of the same wall. Upstairs, a stage (i.e.) persists as an unassuming relic. Unsure of its utility after the production has ended, after the slide has advanced, it glimmers as a feebly constructed vessel of forgotten (?) potential.’ — Yair Oelbaum

The opening reception will feature the listening of Gryphon Rue’s latest album, ‘I Keep My Diamond Necklace In A Pond Of Sparkling Water’, as well as a live by Valentine Branca w/ Liza Maignan, created especially for the opening of these two exhibitions, at Pas Si Loin.

Yair Oelbaum (b. 1988, New York) lives in Milan, NY, where he works as a clinical social worker. He published his first collection of photographs, ‘Asleep in Dirt’ (Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König) in 2024, which compiled macro photographs shot between 2014 and 2022. His first solo exhibition, ‘Teiku’, opened in January 2025 at Galerie Buchholz in New York.

Yair Oelbaum (né en 1988 à New York) vit à Milan, dans l’État de New York, où il travaille comme travailleur social clinicien. Il a publié sa première collection de photographies, Asleep in Dirt (Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König) en 2024, qui rassemble des photographies macro prises entre 2014 et 2022. Sa première exposition personnelle, Teiku, a été inaugurée en janvier 2025 à la Galerie Buchholz à New York.

His recent and upcoming exhibitions include Treignac Projet, Treignac (2025); L’art dans les Chapelles, Saint-Thuriau (2025); Marcelle Alix, Paris (2022); Musée d’art moderne et contemporain, Saint-Étienne (2019); Palette Terre, Paris (2018); Château Rochechouart, Musée d’art contemporain de la Haute-Vienne, Rochechouart (2017). He organized the exhibition Being Thing at the CIAP de Vassivière and Treignac Projet (2015).
