RAINBOW QUEEN 🌈 Queen Elizabeth II’s life spanned more than 70 years of British history. As a global figurehead, her image became recognised across nationalities, religions and cultures, representing a life devoted to service and duty. For Alec & Franz, her distinctive use of colour became a way to reflect on her extraordinary life, from the white of her early years to the black that marks its end. An empty silhouette of the Queen floats in space, surrounded by the vibrant colours so closely associated with her. Beside her, a three-dimensional “Stargate” opens into the unknown, a passage towards the next dimension that awaits us all. Ultimately, Rainbow Queen is a reflection on the human condition. However different our lives may be, death is the one experience that makes us all equal, reminding us that beyond status, nationality or circumstance, we share the same journey into the unknown. Meet ‘The Chronos Singularity’. A work inspired by the language of architecture and created as part of Alec & Franz’s ongoing exploration of how historic spaces can be reimagined through contemporary art. At Boston Manor House, the artists pay homage to the heritage of this lesser-known architectural gem, drawing on its history while introducing their own visual language of meticulous lines, movement and illusion.
