Neljapäeval, 27. augustil kell 19:30 toimub suures SAALis Soome-Angola koreograafi ja etendaja Alen Nsambu @alenzambu residentuuri jagamine.

Valmiv lavateos “blacklight“ keskendub pimeduse, mustanahalisuse ja ohtlikkuse seostele. Teos lähtub mustanahalise “ohtliku“ mehe keha stereotüübist ning uurib, kuidas läänemaailmas kinnistavad seda stereotüüpi nii popkultuuri normatiivsed pimeduse ja valguse kujutised kui ka vanad religioossed tekstid. Kas pimedusest ja mustanahalisusest võiks saada transformatsiooni ja vabanemise koht, selle asemel, et olla paik kontrollile?

“Residentuuri jooksul uurime nii liikumismaterjali kui ka “blacklighti“ audiovisuaalset identiteeti. Minu kunstiline praktika keskendub identiteedile, optikale ning viisidele, kuidas erinevatele kehadele omistatakse ühiskonnas erineval määral nähtavust, läbipaistmatust ja läbipaistvust. Koreograafia ja etenduskunsti piirimail tegutsedes huvitab mind lavaliste maailmade loomine, mis astuvad vastu valitsevatele normidele ja narratiividele.”

On Thursday, August 27th 19:30 a residency sharing of the Finnish-Angolan choreographer and performer Alen Nsambu will take place in the big hall.

blacklight is a new stagework that zooms into the connection between darkness, blackness and danger. It departs from the stereotype of the black “dangerous” male body, and how in the west that stereotype is being reinforced by normative representations of darkness and light in pop culture as well as old religious texts. Could darkness and blackness become a place for transformation and freedom, instead of being a place of control?

“We need to dare to shake things up and create art that both addresses and generates friction.”

Actor Antonia Atarah, dance artists Johanna Karlberg and Alen Nsambu, and sound designer and musician Nicolas “Leissi” Rehn spent three weeks at the residency at the Davvi centre for performing arts in Hammerfest in September 2025. They worked on the performance art piece Swedish Asshole which is will premiere in March 2026 at @teaterviirus

Alen Nsambu is a Finnish-Angolan choreographer and performer. Artistically Nsambu is busy with questions related to identity, normal/neutral/natural, autofiction and joy (on and off stage).

Memories, dreams, visibility, identity and representation. Creating a portal to the yet unknown, through bodily movement. A space for diversity and action, where the individual gaze dissolves into infinite possibilities for the future.

The rising star that is ALEN NSAMBU shows his first solo-work NEON BEIGE at Inkonst 8 NOV. He graduated from Den Danske Scenekunstskolen (DK) with a BFA degree in dance and choreography in 2022. Nsambu’s first full-length choreographic stagework Neon beige, premiered on Zodiak Stage in April 2024. Later in 2024, the work was selected into Aerowaves '25.

Throwback till residenset i Hammerfest i september! ✨

Scenkonstgruppen bakom verket Swedish Asshole arbetade i tre veckor på Davvi – Senter for Scenekunst.

Skådespelaren Antonia Atarah, danskonstnären Johanna Karlberg och Alen Nsambu samt ljuddesigner och musiker Nicolas ”Leissi” Rehn blev vald till residenskonstnärer genom en open call hösten 2024. Under vistelsen arbetade gruppen med Swedish Asshole, ett scenkonstverk som behandlar och dechiffrerar finlandssvenska logiker och sociala koder. Verket leker med den finlandssvenska beundran och strävan till det sverigesvenska, samtidigt som den motsägelsefullt tar avstånd från det.

Residenstet är ett samarbete mellan @davvi_scene @kulturfonden och @finnokultur. Det fokuserar på att skapa plats för minoritetsspråk på teaterscenen.

Throwback to the residency in Hammerfest in September! ✨

The performing arts group behind Swedish Asshole spent three weeks at Davvi – Senter for Scenekunst.

Actor Antonia Atarah, dance artists Johanna Karlberg and Alen Nsambu, and sound designer and musician Nicolas ’Leissi’ Rehn were selected for the residency through an open call in autumn 2024. During the residency, they worked on ’Swedish Asshole’, a performance examining and deciphering Finnish-Swedish logics and social codes. The piece plays with the Finnish-Swedish admiration for Swedish culture while simultaneously distancing itself from this.

The residency is a collaboration between @davvi_scene, @finnokultur and @kulturfonden. It focuses on making space for minority languages on the theatre stage.

In NEON BEIGE, the performer-choreographer Alen Nsambu braids memories, dreams, and desires into a solo that reimagines visibility, identity, and representation. The stage becomes a portal: a space where the inner landscapes leak out. By deconstructing dominant structures, objects and gestures transform into thresholds, opening pathways to alternative ways of being. At its core, NEON BEIGE carves out space for multiplicity and agency, where a singular gaze dissolves into infinite possibilities of becoming. NEON BEIGE is Nsambu’s first full-length choreographic stagework.
