50 Years of Deadly, 50 Deadly Faces

In celebration of this year’s NAIDOC theme, 50 Years of Deadly, we’re featuring 50 deadly people over the month of July!

Deadly face number 38 is Dr. Alethea Beetson @aletheabeetson

Proud Kabi Kabi and Wiradjuri woman Dr Alethea Beetson has dedicated her career to amplifying First Nations voices across music, education and the creative industries. From founding Digi Youth Arts and producing groundbreaking First Nations programs at BIGSOUND, to leading Indigenous initiatives at Spotify and championing Blak creatives through her own agency, Blak Social, Alethea has consistently created platforms where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists can be celebrated on their own terms.

An award-winning writer, producer, and academic, Alethea continues to shape Australia’s creative future by connecting creative and culture in new and innovative ways. Whether mentoring emerging artists, curating national events, developing new pathways in the music industry or advocating for greater Indigenous representation across the arts, she leads with generosity and an unwavering commitment to the next generation.

THE DEADLY CLUB is a new work I have dreaming up with @digiyoutharts where we take theatre to community.

shows and details below, and ticket details over on DYA’s socials:

Wed 28 Jan @inala_wangarra 4pm
Thurs 29 January @thejnoosa with @munimba_ja 4.30pm
Sat 31 Jan and Sun 1 Feb @backdockarts

The Deadly Club is a fast, fierce, and heartfelt play set in 1997, centring three Blak teens who carry far more responsibility than most people ever see. Confident, stylish, and sharp as hell, Courtney, Mariah, and Jordan know exactly who they are — until the ground beneath them begins to shift.

As their final gathering of the year unfolds, the balance between holding it together and letting it go begins to change.

Bold, playful, and quietly devastating, The Deadly Club celebrates Blak joy, resilience, and the strength found in shared care — reminding us that some stories don’t give answers, they give us back to ourselves. by @aletheabeetson
