Née en 1949 à Amsterdam (Pays-Bas), Alet Pilon a grandi dans la Bible Belt, entre un père médecin et une mère souffrant de migraines sévères. C’est son enfance, traversée par la peur, la religion, le pouvoir, l’impuissance et la mort qui influence son langage visuel. Très tôt confrontée à la mort animale, elle cherche à traduire ce deuil dans des images où l’animal semble transcender la mort pour renaître sous une autre forme. Son travail, d’abord guidé par la recherche d’une beauté symbiotique entre humain et animal, s’est progressivement orienté vers des thèmes plus universels : la perte, la solitude et la spiritualité. Son travail se concentre aujourd’hui sur une approche sensible des matériaux, par l’usage de fausse fourrure et de fragments de corps d’animaux, laissant émerger la vulnérabilité de ces êtres vivants.

Born in 1949 in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Alet Pilon grew up in the Bible Belt, between a father who was a doctor and a mother who suffered from severe migraines. Her visual language is deeply influenced by a childhood shaped by fear, religion, power, helplessness, and death. Confronted with the death of animals from an early age, she seeks to translate this grief into images where the animal seems to transcend death to be reborn in another form. Her work—initially guided by the search for a symbiotic beauty between human and animal—has gradually shifted toward more universal themes: loss, loneliness, and spirituality. Today, her practice focuses on a sensitive approach to materials, using faux fur and fragments of animal bodies to reveal the inherent vulnerability of living beings.
