[The “Beaut(y)ies” exhibition artworks]
The works featured in ‘Invisible Beauty’ reveal a different kind of beauty. A beauty born of engagement with the invisible world: the world of death, the spirituality that surrounds it, and the diversity of practices. The works in this selection reveal what is not usually seen. For example, the attention paid to mortal remains in the early days of our history, the traces that persist once the memory has faded, or the personal journey through grief.

Born in 1949 in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Alet Pilon grew up in the Bible Belt, between a father who was a doctor and a mother who suffered from severe migraines. Her visual language is deeply influenced by a childhood shaped by fear, religion, power, helplessness, and death. Confronted with the death of animals from an early age, she seeks to translate this grief into images where the animal seems to transcend death to be reborn in another form. Her work—initially guided by the search for a symbiotic beauty between human and animal—has gradually shifted toward more universal themes: loss, loneliness, and spirituality. Today, her practice focuses on a sensitive approach to materials, using faux fur and fragments of animal bodies to reveal the inherent vulnerability of living beings.
