Another super proud moment. Congratulations to Alex Walker, who has won the Canberra Contemporary Photographic Prize with her work Window Warp I', 2025.

Judges Shaune Lakin (Senior Curator of Photography, National Gallery of Australia), Virginia Rigney (Senior Curator, Canberra Museum and Gallery) and Marzena Wasikowska (Photographer) commented that amongst a very strong group of works, Walker's 'Window Warp I' was immediately visually compelling and continued to offer more on repeated viewing. The deep patina and rich chromogenic colours of the hand-print were especially striking, unglazed, allowing the viewer to become absorbed in the surface. The slanted mount and carefully constructed metal frame reinforced the idea of a window as a portal into something else. Text Courtesy of Photo access, Canberra @photoaccess_inc

Final day of @sydneycontemporary today 🩷

I have had the most wonderful time meeting so many new people and sharing great conversations about my work (among many other things!) Also really enjoyed watching the reflections of people walking past in my shiny test print frames 👀

Had the most wonderful weekend at @mamalbury for the opening and announcement of the National Photography Prize 2026 💫

Congratulations to @paulkthing and @morgan._.hogg and all the finalists, I feel proud to show my work alongside such an incredible selection of artists whose practices I deeply admire 💙

Special thanks to @blair_french_ @michael_kieran_moran @alintamaeve and the entire team at @mamalbury - it’s been such a joy working with you ✨

Thanks also to judges @ellendahlfoto and @natasha.bullock for spending time with my work and including me in this powerful survey of contemporary photography 💙

Void_Melbourne is delighted and proud to announce that Alex Walker is a finalist in the 2026 National Photography Prize opening on 08 August 2026 at the Murray Art Museum, Albury (MAMA). As one of 12 finalists, Alex's suite of works selected from her August 2025 exhibition, 'the image is not merely a surface', affirms Walker’s position as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Australian photography.
