This week, two of my favourite worlds finally came together, photography and Formula 1.

I had the pleasure of being on set for @global , capturing behind-the-scenes moments for the launch of the new @uptospeedshow podcast during their very first recording together.

Up To Speed is hosted by Drive to Survive star Will Buxton, racing driver-turned-broadcaster Naomi Schiff, 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard, and F1 content creator Jolie Sharpe.

It’s fast-paced, unfiltered and full of the gossip that keeps the paddock buzzing.

I’m massively excited about this new launch and can’t wait to see what else is to come (personally I’m already really enjoying the second episode, with an exclusive interview from Max Verstappen on my commute this morning) 🏁 by @alexander.smiith

Above The Clouds, Mini Blog ⬇️

We were collected by a guide in his car around 2:30am from our hotel in Ubud, after a rather hair raising drive to the base of the mountain; we hiked almost 2 hours of constant elevation to reach the peak of Mount Batur, Bali.
Whilst a lot of people complain about the numbers of visitors climbing together, I thought it was amazing to see so many people and it really gave a sense of perspective to the size of the place.
I heard a lot of people moaning about the crowds, whilst they themselves were obviously part of said crowds … you can’t expect to have a place to yourself, that’s entirely a selfish thought.
Instead of moaning, it’s best to just embrace the experience and everyone climbing together in the dark with head torches was an amazing thing to see. The lights weaved up the rocky path above and below you and really kept you motivated to make it to the top - much like I’d expect running a marathon feels (all be it not nearly as hard as a marathon to complete😅)

Anyways once at the summit, above the clouds, the crowds of people actually suited my style of photography perfectly and I really enjoyed photographing the landscape with tiny people resembling ants atop the volcano.

Once the crowds had mostly descended and the sun had fully risen, we even had the chance to get up close and personal with the wild monkeys that live around the crater of the volcano.

So here’s a set of 4 photographs I shot on my Leica Q2 at the summit of Mount Batur, above the cloud inversion and atop an active volcano inhabited by monkeys… enjoy ☺️

Took a break from dancing til dawn and wandered around Ibiza Old Town for an afternoon.
Decided to see how the iPhone does on Apple RAW MAX settings, surprised by the outcome to be honest. Although editing in Lightroom mobile is a bit hit and miss with the way the appleRAW files process … they don’t work well with Adobe profiles at all.
A light edit is all they need thankfully - Apple have managed to save tones and colours really nicely much to my surprise.

Bali town corners, I spent a fair amount of time just wandering the streets of the towns in Bali taking in the vast differences in culture. Avoiding the instagram hotspots and cliches was a top priority for me, I really wanted to see “the real Bali”. taken in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia by @alexander.smiith
