I queued for an hour, wristband on, bouncers with radios, to see John Galliano’s collection for Zara. A few days earlier I had walked at Blenheim Palace for designers working with discarded materials and clothes. Both spoke the language of sustainability and circularity. Only one was working with the materials.

I have had my debut on the runway at Paris Fashion Week @parisfashionweek walking for Mr Rick Owens @rickowensonline. I am delighted and feel very emotional. I have been a great admirer of Rick Owens’ style and aesthetics for years. I also like that he relies on atypical models to show off his collections, without a hint of tokenism. As a model I started off as an atypical model with Grey Model Agency @greymodelagency later ending up as a retro model with Mrs Robinson Management @mrsrobinsonmgt and doing occasional work for Crumb @crumbagency especially music videos. I am still very much an atypical model because of my look but also because modelling is something I do alongside other things – I am an author and for years I taught visual culture as a university professor. I would like to thank Mr Owens and AMC casting @a.m.c.casting especially Saffron Earle @saffronroseearle and of course Angus Munro @angusctmunro . I am also very grateful to Karine at Agence Silver @agencesilver for stepping in as my agency in France, necessary to walk PFW, and my dear friends Ira, designer at IA London @ia_london, for really pushing me to go to the final casting – I nearly chickened out – and Davide @monsieurdavid with whom I have worked a couple of times and who advised on how to present myself at the casting. And of course my family, especially my niece Miriam who helped me with a last minute return flight. I rarely write so much for a post, thanks for bearing with me.

I am so delighted to be taking part in a sustainable fashion show during Sustainable Fashion Week which runs from 26th September to 4th October. Sustainable Fashion Week is not a centralised event but a nationwide series of fashion events, including runway shows, organised locally by community hubs. I will be walking in the show organised by @cherwellcollective at the fabulous Blenheim Palace in Woodstock and can’t wait to be there! Do come along if you can: the show is on 29th September and tickets are available through the Cherwell Collective website. Sustainable fashion is something dear to my heart; I even wrote a book about it! I hope to see you there!

Kew Gardens is so amazing! Elena is visiting from Rome until Sunday so we went to Kew Gardens to admire Henry Moore’s sculptures, part of the ‘Monumental Nature’ exhibition, the largest outdoor display of the work by this incredible artist. We walked, went to see the gallery exhibition to look at Moore’s drawings and smaller art work, then after a leisurely lunch, we took the Kew Explorer and were entertained by the guide. On until Jan 2027 so I will definitely go back. Vast stretches of Kew Gardens were clearly parched. Let’s hope we can get some rain!

Yesterday morning I went for a walk with my friend Brons whose hobby is photography. We stopped at the Barbican, a place I love. Chamberlin, Powell and Bon spent two decades on making it. Brutalism gets called cold, but concrete holds light better than almost anything. It also refuses to flatter you.
