Tcherepnin has developed a performance for modular synthesizer and keyboard based on his exhibition Miracle of Love originally shown at Twinkler, Vienna. The work was originally composed for a floor covered in 20,000 recycled ball pit balls. The composition is made from “Love Frequencies” and subharmonic sequences. The composition in the room was meant to be felt as much as it was heard.

Sergei Tcherepnin is an artist whose practice spans music, visual art and performance. His installations and performances bring together sound and image through tapping in to the sculptural possibilities of sound. His works for modular synthesizer create dreamy new worlds that are tactile and psychological. Having studied with and worked for artist Maryanne Amacher, his work carries on her legacy of composing for a “perceptual geography,” developing the interplay within a single work between the ways in which one receives and processes music. Tcherepnin has performed at venues in NY such as Blank Forms, Roulette, The Stone, Guggenheim Museum, Transpecos, Issue Project Room, and the Kitchen. He has been in group exhibitions at the Whitney Biennial, Greater New York at PS1, the 30th São Paulo Biennial, Museum of Modern Art; Pavilion of Georgia at the 55th Venice Biennale. Solo exhibitions have been held at Murray Guy (New York), Foksal Gallery (Warsaw), Company Gallery (New York), Overduin and Co (LA), Karma International (Zurich). Recent performances and exhibitions include Miracle of Love at Presshouse (Vienna) and Issue Project Room (New York), Sub at Twinkler (Vienna); Cloud Babies, Night Babies as part of the Japanese Pavillion in the Venice Biennale; and Birds as part of the group exhibition Lebt und Arbeitet in Wien, Kunsthalle Wien. His music for Fern Silva’s film Rock Bottom Riser won Best Original Music at Cinéma du Réel at the Pompidou in 2021. by @alexchechile

This is the ten year anniversary of the Ear Tone Toolbox, a collection of instruments designed to evoke inner ear auditory distortion products. To commemorate the occasion, I just released a compatibility update (v1.3) that fixes an issue preventing the previous release from running in recent versions of Max/MSP. It now also includes an installer for easier setup. As always, feel free to reach out if you have questions, and please loop me in on your projects that use it!

Performing a little maintenance on my 48-year-old Serge paperface. The system was so well designed that it opens easily, and all the components are readily accessible. Every time, I’m struck by the aesthetics of these early modular systems

It is impossible to convey everything that Éliane Radigue meant to me, but I’m incredibly grateful for the time we spent together, and the void she leaves is deep. Upon meeting in New York, she kindly invited me to her studio if ever in Paris. We ended up not only meeting, but had weekly tea visits when I was living in the city. We’d talk about everything from stories of her past and anecdotes surrounding her works, to discussions about the piece I was writing, and broader observations on music and art. Our friendship continued over snail mail, and I regret not sending her a letter more recently. I take solace in knowing that her presence lives on through continued teaching, listening, and performance. ♥️ by @alexchechile

Soundcheck for tonight’s performance of Pauline Oliveros’ I of IV by the students in my RISD electronic music history course at the Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art. Tube signal generators, double feedback reel to reel tape delay, and exclusive to this performance, creative use of @harrygouldharveyiv’s two acoustic mirrors. Come out to hear something truly special.

7:30pm

Performed for educational purposes, while free and open to the public with respect and gratitude to Pauline Oliveros’ legacy and in alignment with the Center for Deep Listening. taken in Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art by @alexchechile

Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art
Free & Open to the public

[ FR MoCA - 44 Troy St Fall River MA]

Join us at FR MoCA for an evening of live sound exploration and historic performance.

Chase Ceglie will present a new work for monophonic wind instrument, composed specifically for FR MoCA’s parabolic sound mirrors. His performance focuses on sonic reflections rather than direct sound, using movement, surface interaction, and repetition to activate the acoustic properties of the mirrors.

Alex Chechile’s class from RISD A Hands-On History of Electronic Music will perform Pauline Oliveros’ I of IV, a seminal 1966 electronic composition. Recorded at the University of Toronto, I of IV was Oliveros’ first commercially available piece of electronic music, composed live using sine tone generators and reel-to-reel tape machines. The piece generates audible sound from combinations of inaudible frequencies. Performing are: Tomo Borromeo, Nathaniel Campos, AY Cheng, Alexandra Heffner, Siya Kumar, Alexander Pink, Crystal Ren, Ian Wang, Elise Williams, Hui-Chun Yang, Jinghan Zhang, and Liqing Zhang, using original-era tube signal generators and tape machines. Performed for educational purposes, while free and open to the public with respect and gratitude to Pauline Oliveros’ legacy and in alignment with the Center for Deep Listening.
