Congratulations to Dr. Andrew Codlin. He brilliantly defended his dissertation today in Stockholm! It has been a long and hard journey for him, especially these past 9 months. Hard to believe that mum and dad aren't here to witness this momentous occasion, but I know they would be so proud of all his hard work. But more importantly, they would be impressed by the many kind words from his colleagues and mentors today who praised his passion for TB, his big heart, and for being such a respected member of this global TB community. Ashley surprised Alison and me with tickets to Harry Styles at Wembley a few months ago which was the highlight of our time in London. It was such a fun and joyful concert filled with lots of singing, dancing, and wishing Harry was wearing his little shorts. Last Saturday Leah and I took the train down to London to meet Ashley and Oona for a couple of days. At Borough Market the next morning, I got the biggest shock when Bill and Jason showed up! 2026 has been filled with a lot of really shit surprises, but this surprise was just joyous!! Back from a lovely couple of days in the East Neuk of Fife with Andrew, where the highlight of the trip was visiting the Isle of May. A nature preserve in the middle of the Firth of Forth, it is home to thousands of seabirds, including 50,000 mating pairs of puffins!!!! There were puffins everywhere, as well as lots of razorbills, kittiwakes, eiders, shags, and guillemots. I even got dive bombed by one of the 100 Arctic Terns who flew 13,000 miles from Antarctica to breed on the island. Experienced my first Beltane Fire Festival on top of Calton Hill under an almost full moon last night to mark the beginning of summer. Hard to describe as there was so much happening to tell the story of the May Queen and the Green Man coming together to spark the birth of summer with a huge bonfire, but I'm so happy that this is a key celebration in Edinburgh each year. taken in Calton Hill, Edinburgh by @alexcodlin
