I wrote a thing. I cast a thing. I directed a thing. I produced a thing. All of the things I said I’d do in LA are, somehow, getting done 🥲 In 2021, when I last signed off on my podcast, “You Good, Sis?” @yougoodsispod, I knew I wanted the show to not only return, but to also grow and transform.

That “thing” is now my pilot!! That “thing” is, miraculously, becoming a comedy series centering Black women’s mental health.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who came to the in-person reading! Thank you to everyone who’s ever encouraged me to write. Thank you to my mommy for never letting me forget to honor my love of the written word. Thank you to @therealdebbieallen for pulling an 8-year-old Alexia into her dressing room as she got ready and showing her all of the things she could learn and do as she grew up.

I feel loved. And relieved (lol). And excited!!

Last year, we had our first TwerkSquad weddingggg. God put a literal angel across the hall from me in the Harriet Tubman Quadrangle (Frazier Firstttt), and we just keep growing up together. I love you, @ang_elaina!

For the accent that lives in some of my words, even though I grew up hundreds of miles away. For the summer I learned to drive down 85 and across 20. For the Thanksgiving trips. And Christmas trips. And the Mommy’s-just-homesick trips. For the stars that fell on the quarry G-Ma grew up on. For that marble in Sylacauga becoming monuments in DC. For JSU and ASU and Huntsville and Skeegee. For walking the railroad tracks. And sitting in the carport during a thunderstorm. And playing volleyball with Leah in Grandma’s yard. The red ant bites on my toes. Definitely for the way my cousins say “Lexi.” For the Milo’s tea I have my fridge today. For Winn Dixie and Piggly Wiggly and ROLL TIDE.

For Aunt Ann. For my grandfather and namesake, Houston Alexander. For hearing their hometown on the opening track of the Album of the Year… because another daughter of Gadsden, Alabama just happens to be the greatest of all time.

my 7th grade social studies teacher wouldn’t let me do a tap routine to “Freakum Dress” in my middle school talent show. that was probably really responsible of him, but I was pissed— and I’m a Scorpio, so I don’t plan on letting it go anytime soon 😭
