YEAR OF THE HORSE BABYYY !
Hand drawn animation made with gel pen, prismacolour pencils and felt tip markers on paper

Less hesitation, more self trust, embodying everything I’ve said I am. Knowing that I was never meant to live small. Showing up with authenticity and kindness always. Understanding that vulnerability and care will never be my points of weakness, but my strengths. No weapons formed against me shall prosper.

[Inspired by one of the first samples of stop motion imagery, “The Horse in Motion” (1878) by Eadweard Muybridge] by @alexxdacc

‘sapid’ [to braid], (2026)
Coloured pencils on toned paper, cut and interwoven by hand.

As exhibited in ‘A Family Gathering’, hosted by @platform.presents for Asian Heritage Week

When I began conceptualising this piece I knew I wanted to explore the significance of braiding within my culture. I think about the times my mama would sit me down to brush and braid my hair for school, and how it meant much more to me than I had initially realised.
I think about the craftsmanship, the connection to ancestry, the passing of cultural practice between the hands of many generations.
To me, this piece was a way to honour these braids. A juxtaposition between the coconut leaves of the pusô [hanging rice] and our hair.
