Promoting Social Mobility & Diversity in #STEAM at 10 Downing Street 🏛️

Last Monday, we had the honour of transforming the State Dining Room at No. 10 Downing Street into a dynamic center of innovation, collaboration, and empowerment 💡.

The event, "Fostering STEAM Engagement and Addressing Disparities," aimed to inspire young minds to explore the world of #Science, #Technology, #Engineering, #Arts, and #Mathematics (#STEAM) 🧪🔭📐🎨🔢.

This was more than just an event; it was a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and empowerment. It was about shaping the future and turning the impossible into possible 🌠.

With the help of Professor Richard Benham FCIIS FBCS , Jacqui Garrad , Storm & The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) team, we traced the evolution of computing, exhibiting everything from the famous Enigma machine to Commodore computers 🖥️ to modern AI. The event was also a celebration of diversity, with female STEM leaders THANK YOU - Being at Downing Street was an inspiring privilege, and none of it would have been possible without Myles Stacey OBE and Tukeer Hussain 👏. Saturday, I had the incredible honor to share a stage with some truly world-class speakers. From opening their sessions, giving inspirational advice, or sharing stories about how they overcame adversity in life - no matter how difficult things may seem at first glance: some through perseverance while others overcame incredible loss only determined deeper within themselves not be limited by those circumstances surrounding them; all having given voice not just on stage but also off.
These individuals have found power through ideas that changed attitudes from climate crisis as a social injustice, ideas on how innovation can transform society for generations with low cost bionic arms to to AI at work and ideas that challenge the norms of thinking from talent & unlearning to dyslexia yet still come full circle into what matters most - our individual humanity.

"You talked our language" said a group of female science graduates in the break following my talk “An unbiased Metaverse needs to be our future reality" - it made my day complete!

This weekend's Tedx event was a shining example of what can happen when passionate people come together with the power to change minds, and lives.

Some places never lose their warmth, even when the chairs stay tiny! 💚 Back at Holy Cross this morning, my daughter’s primary school, for the Macmillan Big Breakfast, some 20 years on.

Coffee, cake, conversation, green aprons and even a plant stall. So many happy memories, and that lovely feeling of still belonging, long after the daily school run has ended.

Thank you to everyone who organised, baked, volunteered and donated in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. It was a joy to be back. 💚

Our children have grown up. Those little chairs definitely haven’t!

A rather lovely piece of news in the middle of recovery 🎀
I’ve been shortlisted for two Computing Women in Tech Excellence Awards:
• Role Model of the Year : Tech & Consulting
• Woman of the Year : Tech & Consulting
Both mean a great deal, but the Role Model recognition feels particularly special. I’ve been fortunate to have remarkable people who challenged me, backed me and occasionally gave me the nudge I needed. I’ve always tried to repay that by backing others, opening doors and helping people see what they are capable of.
A huge thank you to whoever nominated me, and to the judges for including me alongside such an impressive group of women.
Technology may be the industry I work in, but people have always been the point.
Looking forward to celebrating on 26 November. For now, it’s back to the physio!

Great evening with the #quantum QBASE community, exploring where quantum is starting to move from theory into real-world use cases.
From financial services and optimisation to sensing, infrastructure and data, the message was clear: useful quantum will be about solving real workflow problems, not just chasing headlines.
Exciting to see BFSI part of the conversation. #ai #innovation #leadership by @alf05ter

What is dyslexia?
For too long, the answer has focused on what people can’t do.
That needs to change.
Because dyslexia isn’t just about difficulty.
It’s also about:
✨ creativity
✨ problem solving
✨ emotional intelligence
The very skills we need in an AI-driven world.
I’ve seen this firsthand not just through my work, but through lived experience, including in my own family.
And here’s the reality:
👉 1 in 5 people are dyslexic
👉 75% say online definitions focus too much on challenges
👉 90% say it impacts a child’s belief in their future
Words matter.
Especially the first ones a child reads about themselves.
That’s why this film matters featuring 13-year-old dyslexic actress Hope Day, with voices from Jeremy Irons and Liv Tyler.
This is about changing what children see when they search.
From limitation → to potential.
🎥 Watch it
💬 Share it
❤️ Help shift the narrative
Because the algorithm only changes if we do. @madebydyslexia @kategriggs_dyslexicthinking

🌍 Happy World Quantum Day 2026 ⚛️
96% expect quantum impact.
Very few are ready.
Quantum has moved from theory → experiment → enterprise reality.
🚀
→ 256 qubits (live today)
→ 1,000+ qubits next
→ 10,000 by 2030
But this isn’t just about scale.
It’s architecture + error correction + real use cases.
💼 For BFSI:
→ Harvest now, decrypt later risk is real
→ PQC isn’t future planning — it’s starting now
→ First advantage: risk, fraud, optimisation
🇬🇧 Quantum is now national infrastructure
And timelines are compressing fast.
👉 AI is accelerating complexity
👉 Quantum is accelerating capability
Together, they change everything.
🌐 Don’t wait for “perfect” quantum.
Build quantum-ready strategies now.
