The theme of our next Visiting Artists Show is…

“Evidence of a Human Touch”

With Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as our frame, this show celebrates artwork that could only have come from the human imagination.

We offer you three points of entry.

Curiosity, as in looking at the world in an unexpected way.

Belief, as in believing in something makes it so.

Dreams, as in holding the possible and impossible side by side.

This show opens on January 23rd but we are opening submissions in November and accepting expressions of interest now. Fill out the expressions of interest form to receive all the details about the show and how to be a part of it. (link in bio)

All artists are welcome to apply to the Visiting Artists Show at ALG Fine Art. Please share this open call with your creative network.

“The Things We Keep” by Christi Meril from “The Long Journey Home.”

This piece in Christi’s new collection captures many of her visual storytelling motifs. The chairs represent home. The rocks represent the great escape of nature. The vertical lines connect the urban cityscape with the natural landscape as they could be skyscrapers or trees. Each layer is a trace of the things we keep.

“East of Here” by Christi Meril from “The Long Journey Home.”

Home is one of those four letter words that encompasses so much. Christi explores it in this artwork as she creates around the feeling of being at home in more than one place. Her love for Dallas sits alongside her love for what’s out west. Her beloved Colorado Rockies, the high desert around Santa Fe, and the Northern California coast near Mendocino, San Francisco, and Carmel.

Christi describes it like this, “‘East of Here’ holds the feeling of being fully present somewhere beautiful while knowing home is waiting in another direction. The painting belongs to both parts of that journey. The landscapes Meril loves stay with her when she returns to Dallas, and her life at home is never far away while she is out in the world. ‘East of Here’ is about the places that restore us and the place we return to, each becoming part of how we understand the other.”

“Trace Elements” by Christi Meril from “The Long Journey Home.”

Art years in the making. This piece can first be traced back to 2023, when Christi collected charcoal from an extinguished campfire at Ghost Ranch, Santa Fe. Ghost Ranch is the land where Georgia O'Keeffe painted, creating some of the most influential artwork of the last century. Inspiration handed from artist to artist and now to you. Where will you take it?

“After The Fire” by Christi Meril from “The Long Journey Home.”

Everyone faces challenges, setbacks, and unexpected plot twists on their journey. This is when our resilience and our true selves shine. Christi tells the story through old-growth redwood.

About this piece, Christi shared, “Redwoods are naturally fire-resistant. They endure intensity and continue to grow. That resilience anchors this piece.”

“The surface is layered with canvas and paper, fastened with nails and sealed in resin. It reads dark, almost charred, but color quietly peeks through the seams. Small flashes of red, blue, and yellow emerge from beneath the black surface. The color is not decoration. It is renewal. It is survival. It is life continuing after heat and pressure.”

“Quiet Spaces” by Christi Meril from “The Long Journey Home.”

Along the journey, it’s not only the monumental moments that shape us but also the “Quiet Spaces” when we can contemplate, reflect, and process. This piece offers us that.

Look closely, and you’ll see charcoal lines. These link back to a specific place and time, when Christi visited Ghost Ranch and gathered charcoal from an extinguished campfire.

About this piece, Christi said, “Sometimes a little room to breathe appears in the middle of everything else. ‘Quiet Spaces' holds that possibility across a canvas filled with movement. The painting’s quiet is something to be found within it. Darker passages give the work weight, while light and color open it back up.”
