Get @reshare_app • @londonartcritic thank you so much for visiting the RSS Summer show “There’s No Place Like It”

“This is a phenomenal group show that shows the full diversity of what’s possible in sculpture. There are playful works, including Annie Edwards’ piece that continually brushes against the wall, commenting on the mundanity of domestic life, and Jane Morgan’s bag of hot air made from bronze. There’s also a cabinet full of misshapen cups and mugs, a trunk full of empty cardboard packaging, hinting at what we’ll leave for future generations, and a tapestry of empty blister packs as the waste products of staying in good health.

One of my #TopPicks for @WorldOfFad, There’s No Place Like It – Summer Show 2026 is on show at Royal Society of Sculptors until 28th November. Free to visit, more information via my link in bio now.

Details of ORNITHIC TALES - waiting in an awesome collection of sculpture, it started life as an ambiguous drawing and after a studio battle with building debris - steel, concrete and wire fencing; plaster casting in fabric and knitting and skins of plaster bandage and linen cloth it eventually found its form. A hybrid being, with arboreal, corporeal and lithic associations.

ASSEMBLY reassembling at HYPHA GALLERY South Bank - travelling from all over.
Co-curated by Alexandra Carr @studioalexandracarr and Alex Breeze @breeze1778

At Hypha Gallery South Bank, @hyphastudios the exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of artist-led conversations, tours, performances, workshops and other encounters, creating opportunities to experience the exhibition through the artists themselves and to explore some of the ideas, processes and materials that underpin their practices.
Co-curator Alexandra Carr MRSS says:
“The original idea behind Assembly was quite simple: to give artists the freedom to make ambitious work and to see what might happen when a group of sculptors are brought together without prescribing what that exchange should look like. Taking the exhibition to London gives us a chance to continue that experiment in a very different context.”
Alex Breeze of Breeze Creatives adds:
“It’s amazing to see Assembly moving from Sunderland to London during Frieze. What began as a chance for a group of artists to come together and experiment has developed into a bold exhibition and has taken on a life of its own. Bringing the exhibition to a new audience feels like a really exciting next step for the project.”

Wonderful afternoon spent at the opening of @royal_sculptors Summer Show.

DECORUM takes up residence in Dora House with an eclectic mix of sculptural responses to the theme ‘Nothing Quite Like It’ carefully and beautifully curated by Henry Holland. @henryholland

Home …”is the relationship between a person and their surroundings, between memory and material, between the private world and the world outside. It can be comforting, complicated, funny, fragile, protective, oppressive, beautiful or absurd and sometimes all of this at the same time.” Henry Holland 2026

Very excited that ASSEMBLY is coming to town - my work ORNITHIC TALE included.

8th October – 15th November
Hypha Gallery South Bank

Opening during Frieze season,
curated by Alexandra Carr MRSS @studioalexandracarr and Alex Breeze @breeze1778 of Breeze Creatives, Assembly began in Sunderland as an experiment in artistic freedom, exchange and collaboration. The London presentation continues that spirit while allowing the works to enter into dialogue with the distinctive context of Southbank and the international activity surrounding Frieze.

The exhibition brings together practices spanning installation, object-making, architectural intervention, film, performance and material experimentation. Across the exhibition, sculpture moves between the intimate and monumental, the poetic and political, the familiar and unexpected.
Together, the works explore the capacity of sculpture to transform space and shape human encounter, while engaging with themes including ecology, identity, migration, labour, landscape, memory and the human experience. Rather than presenting a single definition of what sculpture can be, Assembly reflects the breadth of approaches being pursued by artists working within the field today.
Following its presentation within Sunderland’s historic Athenaeum building, Assembly now enters a very different cultural landscape, bringing the work of its artists into proximity with major institutions, galleries, collectors and international audiences during one of the most significant periods in London’s art calendar.

I’m thrilled that DECORUM will be exhibited as part of @royal_sculptors Summer Show. ‘There’s No Place Like it’ Curated by Henry Holland @henryhollandstudio the exhibition explores the idea of home through sculpture.

'It is the duty of your curtains to exclude the public gaze from your home', so says a 1925 advertisement by the Quaker Lace Company. These three totems to domestic decorum play with the idea of home as a deeply personal, inward and unstable place offering comfort or confinement. The net-curtained window becomes a veiled threshold between private and public space, an uncanny, slippery border between the homely and unhomely.

We continually navigate what we expose and keep hidden in both mind and body. The net curtains present a vision of seductive, decorative and filtered decorum while obscuring the intrusive gaze of the other.

Preview Saturday 19 September, 11-5pm
Mon-Sat 11-5pm until 28 November.

ITERATE finale.

After a fantastic final weekend we leave Strange Parade. Thank you to all who visited - the many generous and inspiring conversations with a steady stream of inquisitive neighbours, curious strangers and many supportive friends, family and fellow artists.

Taking away so much to ponder and reflect on- the processes of collaboration, compromise and powerful creativity - collectively through curating a group show and individually - bringing our diverse practises together in a shared space.

Yesterday’s talk with Ali Darke, Jane Hoodless, Caroline Lambard and Maureen Jordan @strange.parade was thought provoking and interesting - giving time for the artists to reflect on their work both individually and collectively in their exhibition ITERATE. With thanks for the generous and insightful questions and observations by Clare Burnett, who led the conversation. And, thank you to @strange.parade for hosting and of course to all the visitors.

A fabulous final weekend.

FROM MY FATHER’S HOUSE small relics - iterations of an idea. Things I have made, and found, that mean something to me. Separated from other junk and carefully housed in their boxes these miniature things now carry a value way beyond reason.

ITERATE continues @strange.parade - today SATURDAY 12 at 3pm the four exhibiting sculptors @ali_darke @janehoodless @maureen.jordan2009 and @caroline.lambard will be in conversation with CLARE BURNETT @clareeburnett to talk about their work and ideas that have emerged from this exhibition.
