Hello I’m Alice, I’m a queer Banner Maker and Lettering Artist and activist based near the River Fowey in Cornwall.

Thanks for all the love on the House of Hackney video šŸ‘€ā£ļø

I’m currently renovating a 1920’s little stone house and my studio is piled up in boxes in a neighbour’s barn, so I’m really grateful for everyone’s orders, and patience, as I find my feet.

Slide for small slices of life here šŸŽ

Free Palestine and fuck the police x

šŸŽ„ Big love to @george_selley and @houseofhackney for this beautiful shot, filmed at Castle Trematon šŸ°

šŸ’ CHOOSING YOUR BANNER šŸ’

All banners are custom made by me in Cornwall, in a little village near Fowey.

I intentionally set the lead-time to a few weeks.
These items are precious, it gives us time to go through colour options and trimming choices as it’s being made.

All the fabric is repurposed, second hand or deadstock.
The pricing is based on whether it takes me 1 or 2 days (or more) + materials.

Feel free to email me to discuss ideas at hello@alicegabb.com

And the banner shop is here:
www.alicegabb.com/banners

Velvet colours and more information are in the ā€˜Banner’ Story Highlight too ✨

Meet Morris the Activist. For our third instalment of our series where we delve into the man behind the print, we speak to artist Alice Gabb about the art of protest, and carrying on William and May Morris' legacy of colour, craft and joy in activism. taken in House of Hackney by @alicegabb

šŸ’’ WEDDING BANNERS šŸ’’

Always trying to work out the best ways to show banner possibilities and make pricing as clear and transparent as possible!

These wedding banners are the same price as my custom banners, but I thought it would be helpful to show the options all together.

ENORMOUS heartfelt love to @mostcuriouswedfair who are THEEEEEE best directory for creative interesting wedding suppliers and have supported me hugely over the years.

New website page for these incoming ✨

One of the strangest feelings about moving to a new place is leaving behind my access and connection to activism. My flexible self-employed work meant that I could be at so much. Looking back, consistently showing up was one of my best skills.

Cleaners’ morning picket line? Delivery drivers lunchtime strike? Coach trip to block a weapons factory? Singing outside a detention centre? Sx worker march? Arms dealer dinner? Dancing to a climate protest with Zack Polanski in front of a banner reading ā€˜Pump Ass Not Gas’? I was there. Every week.
Not to mention nearly every Saturday going an a full march around central London. Did I have other things I would have liked to have been doing? Absolutely. But it mattered to me to show up.

It was my way of dealing with the grief and the injustice of every day’s news. If I did what I could, the dread went away. I could focus, I felt nourished to be around other people who felt the same. It did more than quiet the dread, it fuelled my best banner work. It quietened the noise and I felt focused. Connected.

I know I will get there again in this new place. I know rationally that as the saying goes, I am just one voice in a big choir, and that other people will keep singing while I step out for a breath. But it does break my heart to not have an outlet just yet.

One of the funniest things people ask is ā€˜Is there any activism in Cornwall?’ Whew. Where to begin! Theres so many campaigns happening here! (Especially in Falmouth!)
There’s a horrific housing crisis/airbnb problem, dredging up sea beds, sewage dumped in the sea…the list goes on.

Please post in the comments any of the MMMANNNNYYYY incredible orgs/groups working in Cornwall.

I’ll start:

@firstnotsecondhomes
@surfersagainstsewage

Hello angels, just a warning!
Banner prices will be rising in September.
I am working on improving the buying process too, as I know buying something custom can be tricky and I appreciate everyone’s trust in me so far šŸ’—

Some context to my previous video!
I’ve given an absolutely shocking summary of Passivhaus, there’s so much more to it than that.
I WISH Passivhaus quality of workmanship and attention to detail was the standard though.
Any questions?

No heat pump. No PIV ventilation system.
No Passivehaus certification.
Just old fashioned solutions, working with the house. Huge windows, loft conversions and open plan houses are going to be hard to manage temperatures as energy prices rise.
*Disclaimer : there is no ā€˜one solution fits all’! *
This is what I chose for mine.

I have a mid-terrace stone 1920’s ā€˜2 up, 2 down’ house.
It had been passed down through one family. It had no central heating.
• I had the gas disconnected, and put in solar panels with 10kW battery storage
• SuperTherm lime plaster for the downstairs
• 300mm flexible Steico wood fibre insulation horizontally against the ceiling in the loft (can’t use my loft and I’m ok with that, it keeps the house warm).
• Steico flex wood fibre between any stud walls or ceilings (did NOT want it lining my stone walls)
• Woodburner for when it gets cold (big compromise - wood is local, wanted security in power cuts)
• My ground floor was concrete and I’ve just left it
Wool carpet in the north facing living room to keep it feeling cosy, tiling on the south facing kitchen floor for easy cleaning

There is a HOT MESS of misinformation out there. Everyone will tell you different answers.
Here are accounts that give information that I found helpful:
🪚@cottageofbrunswick
🪚@spab1877 (they actually have a free HELPLINE for advice if you have a pre-1930’s house!)
šŸŖšā€˜Your Old House UK - Repair and Conservation’ group on Facebook
🪚@judith_learyjoyce (this is a more experimental approach - I lean a bit more towards the traditional heritage accounts above)

If you need to lime plaster, go and learn from @carringtonlime or @tymawrlime
There’s loads of others around the country.
Avoid single day courses, there’s a lot to learn.
Jane Schofield’s ā€˜Lime in Buildings’ is essential, and has full course listings in the back.

I had HELLLL making this happen, despite having HUGE support in the form of off-site accommodation and a fair budget.
I worked with no one that cared about old houses, and they all thought natural insulation was a scam.
Shout out to Ben Law who told me to keep fighting on.

Please share any more info that you’ve found helpful! by @alicegabb

Paul Taylor-McCartney @paultm_author has written a book about Cornwall’s queer history, ā€˜Cornwall Unchartered’ and as a queer artist recently moved to Cornwall, I get to chat to him about it as part of his book tour šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ āš“ļø
For those not local to Fowey (pronounced Foy) , Daphne Du Maurier is a verrryyyyy central and celebrated author who lived here, who wrote ā€˜The Birds’, and ā€˜Rebecca’ both set to the backdrop of where I have spent a lot of my life - Du Maurier and Fowey have a lovely section in the book.

Weds 5th August 2026, 6.30pm
North St Kitchen, Fowey @nskfowey

Tickets Ā£3 via @shrewbooksfowey and Paul’s book is available there too šŸ“–

Thank you to Paul and @shrewbooksfowey for having meeeee šŸ’— taken in Fowey, Cornwall by @alicegabb
