Loose Ends: Woven Memories Across Time responds to Sweden’s unacknowledged history of the 17th-century witch trials and the continued silence of the Swedish Church.
Despite over 400 years passing, the Church has made no official apology for the persecution and execution of hundreds of women, many punished for resisting gendered norms and authority.
Drawing on the tradition of Swedish children dressing as Easter witches, the project links a seemingly playful tradition to a violent past. At its centre is a sculptural storytelling instrument inspired by mythological chariots, combining metalwork, ceramics and sound. An embedded string instrument weaves connections between erased voices, present-day struggles and imagined futures.
Through speculative design and fictional archaeology, “Loose Ends” becomes both a memorial and a political gesture. It contends that an apology is not merely symbolic but a necessary step toward historical accountability and confronting the ongoing legacies of gendered violence.

My graduation project will be shown between the 18-26 October at @dutchdesignweek at the graduation show at Microstad, Eindhoven, (NL).

My thesis about the 17th century witch hunts in Sweden and the nonexistent apology from the church, and why an apology is necessary and relevant despite 400 years has passed.

Including interviews with the Swedish priest Kerstin Wimmer, the modern witch Hella Nathorst Böös and Helena Bure Wijk a descendant to 70 women who got executed as witches in Sweden during the “Great Noise”– all fighting for justice today.

The research about Swedish distaffs and spinning threads that also meant spinning the fate and future of peoples lives. I’ve reinterpreted it as a storytelling instrument.

Appreciation post to myself for working hard all summer in the heat. Work in process, clay outfits, cute ceramics, explosions, welding, great colors and loads of coffee. Sadly someone decided to break off pieces and several of them are missing or broken in many pieces. Rip to the pieces that survived three weeks out in the wild Höganäs. </3 by @aliciafreja

This one broke too many times but rise again for the exhibition night….

This summer I had the privilege to create an outdoor ceramic sculpture for the municipality of Höganäs - the ceramic city!
A food sculpture inside the iconic Höganäs jug based on what it was used for back in the days.

This is me practicing posing with my art and hiding my tired eyes after driving and adding the last bits and bobs 💌🌅🖤

⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧ Yesterday was the day where people in Sweden historically believed that witches kidnapped children and flew to Blåkulla - an imaginary place, depending on the region -to have orgies with the devil and the kidnapped children.
٠࣪⭑
Children all over the country would confirm the rumors and would tell one horrible story after the other every one more exaggerated and grotesque than the one preceding it; a fire run wild.
٠࣪⭑
Since children “couldn’t tell lies” it resulted in hundreds of women; mothers, sisters and daughters being beheaded and burnt at the stake by the establishment of the church. Anyone could be singled out by their neighbor or even by their own family.

Today we have turned the horrible event into a festive tradition where children are dressed up as Easter witches giving out Easter greetings and collecting candy.

The chapter is not closed and my graduation project aims for an apology from the Swedish church, a memorial and an acknowledgment.

Yesterday six hundred modern witches performed a ritual in Sweden to push and fight for an official apology on behalf of those who were executed four hundred years ago and onwards but also for their descendants today and to reclaim the title or moniker of witch and to stop history repeating itself as it is sadly already inclined to do.

Since no one has apologized yet, I created an absurd apology in addition to my memorial storytelling instrument in relation to my graduation project at @designacademyeindhoven
