A moment I will never forget. So special to share with my two bush boys. Will always treasure it.

We waited 3 days for the Wild Ellie’s to visit - so worth the wait….

Incredible to be ground level with these Majestic Giants…

The Endangered Wildlife Trust is dedicated to conserving threatened species and ecosystems in southern and East Africa.

Wild Dogs are Africa’s second most Endangered carnivore after the Ethiopian Wolf. They have disappeared from 25 of the 39 countries they once roamed, and only around 1,400 breeding Wild Dogs remain. As such, they are classified as Endangered on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

On World Conservation Day we joined @kulani_nyakane from @the_metapopulation_initiative.

Conservation comes alive when the next generation gets to experience it firsthand. 🌍🐆

Ollie and Hugo had the incredible opportunity to observe four wild cheetahs being carefully translocated to Zimbabwe.

They witnessed far more than the movement of four animals. They saw conservation in action — the planning, precision, teamwork and commitment required to give these cheetahs a chance to thrive in a new environment.

What made the experience especially meaningful was how the team included them: answering their endless questions, explaining the process and allowing them to understand the why behind every step.

These are the experiences that can shape young minds.

Because protecting wildlife isn’t only about what we do today. It’s about inspiring the children who will inherit the responsibility of protecting it tomorrow.

Ollie and Hugo may have simply been watching four cheetahs begin a new chapter — but perhaps they were also beginning their own journey as future guardians of the wild

*The Metapopulation Initiative* (TMI), work across borders and ecosystems to ensure the long-term survival of endangered carnivores—most notably the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus). Their projects are grounded in science, built on collaboration, and designed to connect fragmented populations through coordinated translocations and active metapopulation management.

They focus on areas where natural movement is no longer possible, stepping in to move individuals between reserves, protect genetic diversity, and reintroduce cheetahs into landscapes where they once roamed.

Big shout out to @kulani_nyakane @shaunwildlifevet @mikedaymond

PART 1 - Before raising 3 humans - I had the incredible privilege of working alongside Wildlife Rehabilitator Karen Trendler - ARC/Wildcare...💚

At the time Karen’s work with rhinos was groundbreaking. She was among the first to successfully foster and raise white and black rhinos, and then release them.

During my time at Wildcare we hand reared Wild Dog Pups, Cheetahs, Rhinos, Elephants, caracals with the goal of always getting them back into the wild. …. We helped all wild animals and birds except for lions.

Was so lucky to learn from the best.

This is 8!

Hugo’s wish for his 8th Birthday was to go and see Duma again. Such a special sunrise together to celebrate our little guy.

Duma is a free roaming cheetah that is not kept in an enclosure. He walks with you when he wants to - he walks away for long periods into the bush and does his own hunting.

Happy 8th Birthday Sweet Hugo - you are such a kind, caring boy. We love you so much.
