It’s easy to think about all the things she hasn’t been here for and won’t be here for. She never got to see me graduate high school or college, meet some of the most lovely people in my life, or see me get married and have kids one day. But the flip side of that is this: because of her relationship with Jesus, I know she is in heaven right now, worshiping in the presence of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve continually gone back to Romans 8:28. Hear me clearly: this verse isn’t saying all things are good. Grief isn’t good. Cancer isn’t good. Loss isn’t good. It’s saying the Lord can bring good out of all things for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

I’ve seen this to be true in my own life. I still miss her deeply, but I’ve seen the Lord use this loss to refine me, draw me closer to Him, have conversations with others that could only have been initiated by Him, and reveal His heart through His comfort. He has turned the hardest part of my life into my greatest ministry!

I miss my mom every single day, but after 10 years, I can testify that the Lord is so worthy of all praise. Because of His love, He sent His Son to die for our sins and rise three days later, defeating sin and the grave. Because of the gospel, we have the opportunity to step into a relationship with Christ and experience the hope we have in Jesus.

Because my mom put her faith in Jesus, she is worshiping in heaven right now.

Today is 7 years without my sweet mom here. The last few years has been marked with indescribable grief and hurt, but we serve a God who is so much greater than all of this and worthy of my praise. Today, I’m thankful for a God that instills great joy in our hearts in the midst of pain and who offers peace as we lean into Him. John 16:33 tells us that we WILL experience trouble on this earth, but He has already overcome the world and we can have victory in His name! He has been and will always be good. What great news!!!

The Lord is waiting with open arms to rescue you and walk with you in your pain. For you and me, He sent His one and only son to die for our sins so we can be saved through Him! Such a faith-filled decision to come to The University of Oklahoma and the Lord has proved more than faithful in these past four years!
