This is the story of the hunt for Backyard Baseball, the point-and-click computer game beloved by 90s kids. In the early 2000s, Backyard Sports was a best-selling franchise and then one day, it just vanished. The studio behind it folded. The rights were scattered. The source code was lost. Front page story on the 91-year-old St. Marks landlord came out today in print. It’s been so cool to write about my two homes this year: Sag Harbor, where I grew up, and the East Village where I live now and have planted roots. Both places are changing. Both places are unlike any other. Thank you @kludt for commissioning these stories by @alischade

Latest for the @nytimes. Charles Fitzgerald arrived on St. Marks Place in 1959. He opened the first stores, planted the first trees, bought up some of its historic buildings, and lost fortunes along the way. He’s 91 and still on St. Marks. We have him to thank for keeping the yoga studios, a bookstore, comedy club, and other neighborhood gems that might have been pushed out by other landlords. He’s not sentimental about the past. Doesn’t care about the new nine-story building on the corner. To Charles, what’s interesting is “the dynamism of the moment.”
