Alison Currie @alisonjcurrie joined us for a two-week A.R.T. residency in June. Alison’s choreographic practice explores sculptural forms, found objects and environments in relation to performer, place, and the system of consumption. During her residency, Alison began developing a new site-specific performance project, which she envisages presenting in gallery settings. Her unfolding process included scouring the surrounding environment for discarded objects to become the heroes of her work - firstly placing them on display as artefacts, and then exploring their potential within a performance. Alison spotlighted the chronology of waste, prompting us to consider where an item's lifecycle ‘begins’ and ‘ends’, and our own role in determining an object’s value. ~ Images by Aaron Ashley @tszar_ by @alisonjcurrie

We are so excited to welcome the wonderful Alison Currie to our team as second cast to Cinzia! 🌟 Alison will be performing in our remaining show this Sunday 6pm alongside Pat, so make sure you book up remaining tickets! Recognised as an independent choreographer and performer with a strong visual practice, Currie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance from Adelaide College of the Arts, and a Research Masters in Choreography and Performance from University of Roehampton (UK). Currie’s choreographic practise is concerned with sculptural forms, found objects and environments, in relationship to the performer, exploring the exchange of agency between them. Her work connects the individual with universally shared humanity through live performance. Currie has created significant works Concrete Impermanence, I can relate commissioned by Carriageworks, and Of All Things commissioned and performed by ADT, as well as several collaborative works including Somewhere, Everywhere, Nowhere, co-directed and performed with Yui Kawaguchi for OZAsia Festival 2021, was a Keir Award Finalist 2020 for De-Limit co- directed with David Cross and was awarded Arts South Australia’s inaugural Triennial Project Grant to present and tour her first major work 42a around Australia, 2008-2010. Currie has an ongoing practice with Ade Suharto, beginning in 2021, which has led to an iterative series of performance moments entitled Maintain, Rest, Value (2023-ongoing).
