Today, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Alison Mills Newman for gracing our live feed with her presence and her extraordinary spirit.

Madame Newman did far more than join a conversation — she offered us an inheritance of lived truth. Her words carried the authority of experience refined by endurance, reflection, and grace. She reminded us that wisdom is not ornamental; it is forged. It is shaped in the quiet crucible of resilience and carried forward as light for others.

In honoring her message that love conquers all, we are called to remember that this truth stands within a powerful lineage. It echoes the indomitable legacy of Elizabeth Keckley — a woman who rose from the brutality of enslavement to become a trusted confidante to Mary Todd Lincoln and an architect of her own freedom. Keckley’s life was itself a testimony that love — for dignity, for community, for justice — can outlast oppression. Through her skill, intellect, and moral courage, she stitched together not only garments, but pathways to self-determination and collective uplift.

Just as Keckley transformed suffering into service, Madame Newman transforms experience into illumination. Both women, separated by centuries yet united in spirit, teach us that legacy is not built on comfort — it is built on conviction. It is built on the audacity to believe that compassion is stronger than cruelty, that truth is stronger than silence, and that love is the most enduring form of power.

Tonight, we stand in gratitude for a continuum of brilliance — for women who refuse to be defined by adversity and instead redefine the world through grace and courage. We are enriched by their testimony, steadied by their example, and charged to carry forward the timeless declaration they embody: that love is not merely an emotion, but a transformative force that conquers all.
