Omorfoi (one-channel video installation with sound, 20 min, 2019) was conceived over breakfast on the island of Milos, rehearsed, and filmed in a week in Moscow. The music (@alkokhanov) and editing took about another month. Shown in Vietnam. It all came together so effortlessly. Working like this was (and is) a rare pleasure. taken in Milos, Greece by @alkokhanov

I’m showing “Family Resemblance” soon in Neukölln Speicher on July 4th at 19:00 as part of
“Fiction makes me nauseous” exhibition curated by Kira Dell and Laura Seidel. 48 Stunden Neukölln. In FAMILY RESEMBLANCE, Alexey maps the emotional landscape of his 1991 childhood journey to Uzbekistan. Video projections of Uzbek landscapes and landmarks, along with processed field recordings from the trip, serve as the framework for his vocal performance. He combines original compositions, diary excerpts, and interpretations of songs to create an autoethnographic space of memory. by @alkokhanov

In case anyone has forgotten — and for those who never knew — @alkokhanov has a magnificent velvet baritone. Here he is singing Schubert’s The Gods of Greece in the burned-out building of the School of Modern Play Theatre in Moscow. A spontaneous little music video on this was made with whatever we had at hand. Filmed by a friend, edited quickly by me. Happy Alexey will be with us (@zeitkind_verlag) at @gruenersalon.berlin this Friday. by @alkokhanov

As part of Mint Poetry Festival 2026, Alexey Kokhanov presents the new performance ”Elegies”, a representation of the memory of AIDS victims in poetry and popular culture.

Alexey Kokhanov is a voice, sound, and performance artist based in Berlin. He works at the interface between contemporary music and experimental performance. Alexey’s artistic practice explores the different aspects of voice — from physiological to its aesthetics and politics.

𝘖𝘕𝘠, Alexey Kokhanov

In the solo performance 𝘖𝘕𝘠, Alexey Kokhanov address the so-called phenomenon of the Old New Year, an unofficial celebration observed in communities shaped by the shared cultural memory of the Soviet period.

Between the dates of the New Year and the Old New Year, time seems to stand still. As the Soviet poet Voznesensky said: From the first to the thirteenth — the abyss between times. (Old New Year, 1975).

Through this performance, Alexey Kokhanov transforms this emotional state of expectation and hope into a fantastical figure.This character, with its own language and sonic atmosphere, functions both as a guide through this transitional state and as an alter ego of himself. taken in HB55 Kunstfabrik by @alkokhanov
