How To Bury Your Digital Twin
An audiovisual performance about saying goodbye to my digital twin 3-LA @nextlevel_festival 2025

Ambient with Lyra8, family/field recordings, AI twin & the Virtual Tatar Choir - an AI instrument, trained on rural Tatar singing.

In the audiovisual performance “3-LA Burial Ritual,” allapopp stages a burial of their own digital twin, 3-LA. What was once conceived as a promise of continuity and immortality must disappear to create space for new visions and possibilities. But how do you say goodbye to something that was never alive? Is it permissible to bury something that doesn’t belong to you? What laws or moral rules apply when it comes to rendering a digital entity lifeless – and how could such an act even be performed?

The performance looks at the process of how a transhumanist dream transformed into a cyberfeminist nightmare,

and how the pursuit of immortality became a reflection of what one actually wanted to escape.

Questions of life, death, simulation, and animism intertwine with Arthur C. Clarke’s third law: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

When Body Is Not Enough takes place as part of AI-WORLDING, a cooperative exhibition between @saasfeepavillon ✕ @museumangewandtekunst as part of the @wdc2026

When Body Is Not Enough brings together more than a decade of allapopp’s self-digitalization through the evolving figure of 3-LA, the artist’s autonomous clone. Initiated in 2014 as a voice-cloning experiment, the project evolved by 2024 into a fully interactive AI agent—a speculative double of allapopp’s body, knowledge, character, and artistic practice. Across voice synthesis, body scanning, motion capture, generative AI systems, and personal archives, this long-term inquiry reflects both a personal trajectory and a cultural mirror of contemporary AI technologies.

Reflecting on 3-LA’s burial and eventual shutdown in 2025, allapopp reimagines saasfee*pavillon as a Black Box of AI, with a speculative Backend Chamber—the post-mortem remembrance site for the artist’s clone. Within this setting, works created individually and collaboratively form a constellation of negotiations, ruptures, and disillusions, charting a movement from fascination toward technological disenchantment and toward speculative futures beyond the binary of Hollywood techno-dystopia and Silicon Valley techno-utopia. Presented through video, installation, sound, mixed-reality environments, hand-tufted carpets, and acrylic-glass prints, the exhibition approaches artificial intelligence as a cultural, economic, and ideological construct.

For this edition of our Dinner-Ceremony AŞ at silent green, the dinner unfolded inside an installation of our computer game AŞ.

Around one table, its physical and virtual forms met: handmade food, family recipes, Tatar language, music, images and stories carried through different generations and technologies.

The project began with a question: why is Tatar culture so rarely imagined as part of a technological future?

Rather than treating tradition as something that belongs only to the past, AŞ asks what happens when a ritual continues through new media, new bodies and new forms of gathering.

For one evening, the game became a room, the room became a table, and the table became a shared ritual.

Four days of making AŞ.

Planing, schopping, kneading, rolling, frying, boiling, plating, carrying, washing and lots of improvising.

For this edition of AŞ, we prepared a vegan Tatar dinner for 30+ people: bäleş, AŞ & tokmaç, öçpoçmag & ğöbädiya, qıstibiy, qoş tele, çäk-çäk, talqış käläwä, halva, and more.

AŞ has always been as much about collective labour as about the moment of gathering itself. Recipes and knowledge move between people, hands and generations. The dinner is made through all of these small acts long before the guests arrive.

Grateful to everyone who cooked, chopped, carried, plated, washed, watched babies, solved problems and kept the kitchen moving with us. 🖤

The best part of setting a table is eventually seeing people around it.

Some moments from our AŞ dinner at silent green: eating, talking, laughing, passing plates, taking pictures of food, drinking tea and spending an evening together.

Thank you to everyone who came and shared the table with us. 🤍

A table for 32, an ancestral Tatar ritual, a computer game & lots of food 🌷

After days of cooking, carrying, setting tables, worrying, improvising and getting everything ready, we finally sat down together for AŞ.

Around one table, with food, stories, music and the world of our game surrounding us.

AŞ has always been about gathering. About the strange and beautiful ways rituals travel, change, disappear and return. And yesterday, for a few hours, it became something very physical again: people passing food to each other, talking, listening, laughing, eating together.

Thank you so much to everyone who came and shared this table with us. Thank you @ecommemoration for inviting us and giving AŞ a space to exist in this form, and to our friends, family, helpers, supporters and collaborators for making it possible. It really took a village. 🤍

Beauty Labour. Hacking the algorithmic Body
@3caberlin

Digital publics create spaces of discipline where faces and bodies are dissected, measured, manipulated, and judged by presumed value. Featuring works by allapopp, Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen, Lia Meret Lehmkuhl, and Julia Rogosin, the exhibition at 3CA Berlin’s crane hall examines the production of bodies within neoliberal and algorithmic logics through video, installation, and photography.

And here are another four things we want you to know about our computer game, and why it is a dinner-ceremony.

1. The house is a real Tatar village house from the inside!
The house you move through in AŞ is based on a 3D scan of an actual house of relatives of our friends, who generously cooperated on creating the space while receiving the instructions to scan remotely.

2. Our memory of AŞ is fragmented by time and distance.
We chose the fragmented aesthetic of 3D scanning because our own memories of home and of this ritual are fragmented too. Living in migration, and with returning becoming increasingly difficult, these places often come back to us in pieces, slightly distorted, almost like in a dream.

3. Different guests are invited to our virtual AŞ.
In the game, we encounter figures from Tatar mythology and folklore, including Su Anası, Şüräle and Sak-Sok. But we also invite our own memories into the ritual: fragments of ourselves, our friends and families, stories we inherited, timelines we’ve lived through, altered by an autocratic imperial regime.

4. The table is what holds our space.
What we remember very clearly is the table: people gathering around it, food being served, time spent together. So while the house itself appears fragmented, the table remains very present.

That is why there is a table at the centre of the computer game, and also a physical table at the centre of the AŞ dinner performance. We are trying to bring these two together and re-live the ritual in a new form, shaped by our present reality in migration, somewhere between technology and tradition, past and future, critique and appreciation.

AŞ is a traditional Tatar ritual, a dinner ceremony. And we also turned it into a web-based computer game, which anyone can play online for free at https://tatar-ash.space

Three things to know about our game are:

1. The idea for the game came with the question: why is Tatar culture so rarely imagined as part of t̶e̶c̶h̶n̶o̶l̶o̶g̶i̶c̶a̶l̶ future? And what happens when we bring it into dialogue with a contemporary medium such as a computer game?

So we recreated AŞ the computer game, in a way that invites players to take part in the ritual, moving through Tatar culture, language, folklore, and stories of resistance.

2. We proud to share that the entire game production was made only by a small FLINTA team with creative technology by @neslob_ @dock_digital_berlin and design by our long time collaborator @schoenherr___

3. The game grew alongside our AŞ music album, where the same experiment continues through sound: Tatar instruments, language, field recordings, and the AI instrument Virtual Tatar Choir, trained on the voices of our relatives and ancestors. The album includes collabs with incredible Tatar artists @aigelslv and @svetabenprojects

This Sunday, the physical and virtual AŞ come together. Our dinner at silent green will unfold inside an immersive installation of the game, surrounding us as we eat, listen and move through the ritual together.

At the center of the AŞ ritual is food, and for @allapopp especially the Tatar pie Bäleş.

After years of working with digital technologies @allapopp started wondering what other technologies already exist around us, following completely different logics and rooted in different cultural narratives.

Bäleş became one of the ways of thinking through this. Not only the pie itself, but the process of making it together, passing knowledge from generation to generation, gathering around the table, opening it and eating it together.

These rituals of making, sharing and gathering are where much of our artistic curiosity lives right now.

And this Sunday, we’ll gather around Bäleş and other dishes again for AŞ at Transgressive Memory Festival @ecommemoration taken in DOCK 11 by @allapopp

AŞ, one year ago at @dock_11_ 🖤

Last year, we gathered around one table at DOCK 11 for AŞ: sharing food, stories, music, memories and blessings. It was such a special evening, and we’re very happy to bring the dinner ceremony back once again.

This Sunday, September 13, AŞ returns as part of Transgressive Memory Festival @ecommemoration at @silent.green

Around one table, we’ll gather again to eat, remember, listen and spend an evening together, surrounded by the world of our AŞ game, music and installation.

We can’t wait to do it all over again. 🖤
