I simply want to honor this amazing, gifted, incredibly funny frenemy of mine, Paul Smith. I'm devastated to (just today) hear of his passing during the run of OTHELLO at Classical Theater of Harlem. He was the security chief of Marcus Garvey Park. He kept everyone safe and never missed an evening of performances in 14 years until his untimely passing.
We cracked on each other like high school buddies from the very first moment we met! 🤣We continued an ongoing "frenemyship" of back and forth insults in texts and in person ever since we met when I was in TWELFTH NIGHT at CTH in 2023.
This photo was the last time I would see him in person in 2025, although we would continue to communicate regularly by text.
Thank you for keeping us safe at every show my dear friend. And thank you for all the clever jibes. You could give it as good as you'd get it. I still laugh out loud at our good-natured rancorous thread. I will miss you. Rest well. 🙏🏾 by @allengilmore32

What does it mean to originate a role in a new play? It means you are indelibly marking a work in the mind of the playwright. Everything that comes after will be in relation to that first production. It was a stroke of incredible good luck to witness and work with the unparalleled WONDERFULNESS that is Allen Gilmore on one of my most ambitious plays. Watching him play Malvolio in Carl Cofield’s celebrated production of TWELFTH NIGHT at the Classical Theatre of Harlem was a revelation. Getting him to play the title role in my play was a dream come true. So many stars had to align for MALVOLIO to have seen the light of day and at the center of it all was the burst of sunshine, laughter, talent, and joy that is Allen. If you saw Malvolio or another production with Allen in it, please drop some love for him in the comments.

I want to thank all my friends for the amazing birthday greetings yesterday. You made my year! I love you all so much. And I can't truly express how loved you made me feel.
Here's a couple of shots from the beautiful campus at Peninsula Players on Green Bay where I'm rehearsing Ken Ludwig's BASKERVILLE as Sherlock (Sher-locs?) Holmes. Checking him off that Bucket List. 😁 by @allengilmore32
