Last week I did something brave. 😳 For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved being in front of people. I’ve loved speaking and sharing ideas and connecting with an audience. I was the five year old selling tickets to house guests for living room performances. 🎟️ Yet in the process of building a business, I put myself behind the scenes. I put my head down and other dreams to the side. I focused on serving other people’s dreams. Isn’t that the case for so many of us? 🥀 The best surprise gift of living in Nashville has been my friendship with @aj_vaden & @roryvaden and their remarkable team @brandbuildersgroup (forever hat tip to @jaggard_ for that intro). Rory & AJ are the masters of personal branding and building a business around that personal brand. They have over 1000 clients and, twice a year, they host a showcase for 20 of those clients to speak. Many are already building careers as professional speakers. 🎤 I was planing to come as an attendee, ready take notes. Then one month ago I got an email that said: YOUR SLIDES ARE DUE (!!!!!). I thought it was a mistake. Thus ensued my 3-week sprint to watch every @roryvaden talk on speaking, attend every @brandbuildersgroup speaker training, and write and memorize a high-impact, emotional, funny, transformational, and low-key life-changing 15-minute keynote. I haven’t studied this hard since college. 😮‍💨 At the end of each keynote at the showcase, Rory & AJ give live coaching and I’ll just say: their feedback made me cry. In the best way. It was a moment of courage, of course, but WOW did I feel supported by them, by their team, and by my friends and family who showed up with coffee and pompoms and cheer-leaded me the whole way. 🥲 My keynote was about Relational Equity, but by saying yes to this opportunity, I got to EXPERIENCE Relational Equity. So friends, let this be your nudge today to say a big YES. To risk something. To do something brave! And to let your people show up for you. It’s probably time.💫 PS. Come with me behind the scenes for a day of recording the “Meet the Author” podcast!! The conversations were 🔥.
