This Sunday, October 11th I’ll be preparing a large amount of barbecue In hopes that the community will come pick some up and leave a donation for the scholarship fund set up in Owen’s honor. This should be ready by noon on Sunday. I’m thinking pulled pork, Mac and cheese and pickles. We’ll be serving until it’s gone. I’ll hope to see you this weekend to fill the donation jar for OC. I’ll share more leading up to Sunday. by @allmarblehead

OCT 8TH @ 5:30PM: Not all ghosts rattle chains — some linger in memory, belief, and unfinished lives. Ghosts & Consequences is an adults-only Marblehead walking tour that moves through the town’s oldest streets, quiet lanes, and historic burial grounds. You’ll pass weathered headstones and centuries-old homes while hearing the real stories that shaped this coastal harbor town — the kind that don’t always make it onto postcards.

If you’re looking for a walking tour in Marblehead, MA with a darker edge, this one leans in. Shipwrecks. Scandals. Hard choices. Local legends that still spark debate. It’s history with bite — thoughtful, a little unsettling, and more than a little fun.

New artist alert! 🎨

Many of you know our latest artist—Tracy Finn! Tracy is an award-winning artist born and raised in Marblehead. She has been painting with watercolors and oils for over thirty years, exploring a variety of subjects, and always coming back to her love of sweeping skies and the sea.

We’re displaying her “My Feathered Friends” series, which she paints on paper and then collages that paper into these beautiful and fun pieces. We can’t pick our favorite!

Come on down and check them out through 11/22!

As always, thanks to the @marbleheadarts for partnering with us! taken in Shubie's Marketplace Wines and Spirits by @allmarblehead

From Martha Washington to Eleanor Roosevelt and those who have served in more recent administrations, he’ll discuss the lasting footprint that the First Ladies left on the White House and the nation, and how, over time, the public role has evolved alongside the presidency and American society. Coffee and bagels will be served. Location JCCNS. Event is FREE. by @allmarblehead

Here’s a photograph from around 1900 of Joshua Slocum’s Spray. He was the first person to sail around the world by himself. The photo was taken by Herman Parker in Marblehead and I believe it hasn’t been published before. The complete image follows with the Eastern YC in the background. Capt. Slocum was already a legendary sailor starting out in the 1860s as captain of ships out of San Francisco in trade with Australia. He left East Boston on April 25 1895 and set sail for Gibraltar before coming across the Atlantic again to Brazil (a map is in the mix). He really loved Brazil and he even wrote a book titled Voyage of the Liberdade about his time in Brazil just after slavery was abolished there, Liberdade meaning Freedom. His book on his round the world voyage became a huge bestseller in 1899-1900 and has been republished nearly 100 times. I’ve read it and it’s very succinct in capturing mood and loneliness. His going around Cape Horn took something like 40 attempts and when he was through to the Pacific he was met by an attack of natives when setting foot on land. Lots of adventures with Capt. Slocum to say the least. Photos include Spray in Fairhaven Massachusetts, where he fixed her up and lived with his family. Other images are in Tasmania, Recife Brazil, Sydney and at the 1901 Pan American Exposition in Buffalo. There have been a number of recent biographies on Slocum as his life never ceases to capture imaginations. #marblehead @allmarblehead #joshuaslocum #easternyachtclub #marbleheadma #sailinglife⛵️ taken in Marblehead Harbor by @allmarblehead
