Our long anticipated “Allowed to Birth” film night had @ang_cnm_ibclc on the edge of her stool! 😉
It was such a fun night. We got to watch, debrief, reflect and learn from other wise birth workers. We were educated on the restrictions around breech birth and how with TRUE informed consent you are told ALL of your options. This is not just good health care, it’s the law.
Thank you once more to @alihoneycuttbirthservices for graciously letting us use your space.

Los Angeles and San Francisco, we’ve got something special coming your way.

We’re bringing Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife to both cities this fall, and in LA, we’re pairing it with Deliver Us for a special double-feature screening.

These are two very different films, but both open up important conversations about birth, the people who care for us, and what’s possible when we imagine doing things differently.

And we don’t want the conversation to end when the credits roll.

We’ll be gathering with filmmakers, thought leaders, and community members to watch, reflect, ask questions, and connect over something that touches all of us: how we enter the world.

Even better? It’s for a great cause. For over four decades, Californians for the Advancement of Midwifery (CAM) has been working to advance midwifery across California. These benefit screenings are a chance to celebrate how far we’ve come, bring new voices into the conversation, and help shape what comes next.

Exciting News!

Join us in Calgary on November 15 for a community screening of the award winning documentary Allowed to Birth!

As a doula, I often hear from families what they are allowed or not allowed to do and I always correct them and make sure that they know that they are allowed to do whatever they choose when it comes to their bodies and their births.

The film examines how modern maternity care has evolved, the consequences of routine medical intervention, and the efforts of birth professionals advocating for evidence-based, woman-centered care. It invites audiences to reconsider what it means to give birth with dignity, autonomy, and trust in the body's innate capacity.
