Live! A truly wonderful chat with Jacinta Lagos, creator of @allowedtobirth around the making of the film, the motivation behind creating the film and what she hopes to achieve by sharing what she witnessed as a doula and birth documentarian.

True to this mini birth series, Jacinta and I also discuss how the current events and media around free birth may or may not have affected the message behind the film. Let me know your thoughts on this ep, I really@enjoyed this conversation and hearing about Jacintas experiences ❤️#allowedtobirthdocumentary #allowedtobirthfilm #birth #freebirth #midwifery

‘Allowed to Birth’
med påfølgende panelsamtale

Onsdag 21.10.2026

Standard of care should never replace informed consent. Informed consent means being presented with all your options, not just the one being recommended.

When surgery is presented as the standard of care, without a meaningful discussion about vaginal birth as a possible alternative, are women really being given the opportunity to make an informed choice?

Every woman deserves to understand the benefits, risks and alternatives to any proposed intervention, including the option of vaginal birth where clinically appropriate.

Our long anticipated “Allowed to Birth” film night had @ang_cnm_ibclc on the edge of her stool! 😉
It was such a fun night. We got to watch, debrief, reflect and learn from other wise birth workers. We were educated on the restrictions around breech birth and how with TRUE informed consent you are told ALL of your options. This is not just good health care, it’s the law.
Thank you once more to @alihoneycuttbirthservices for graciously letting us use your space.

The way we bring life into the world affects far more than the moment of birth itself. It shapes the experiences of mothers, babies, families and the communities around them.

Allowed to Birth invites us to look more closely at the choices, systems and expectations surrounding childbirth, and to ask what could be possible if women's voices were placed at the centre of their care.

More than a documentary, this is an opportunity to open up an important conversation about maternal health, informed choice and the future of maternity care.

Following the screening, audiences are invited to join a live Q&A panel, including Australian midwife, educator and mentor Sarah Smits, for further discussion and shared perspectives.

Whether you're a parent, an expectant parent, a birth worker or simply someone who believes these conversations matter, this is an evening worth being part of.
