Alcides Neto is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Drawing inspiration from the folk traditions of his homeland, he offers a fresh perspective on Brazilian music by blending traditional rhythms with contemporary Brazilian influences.

Released in February via @music.in.exile Amú features eight original compositions and is a nostalgic yet celebratory journey through the landscapes of Alcides’ homeland, reflecting on the cultural traditions and family connections left behind while looking hopefully towards new horizons.

Amú was warmly received both locally and internationally, earning PBS FM’s Album of the Week, being named one of Bandcamp’s Best Latin Album releases of March 2026, receiving praise from UK label Mr Bongo as “one of the best releases of 2026 so far,” and attracting airplay on Jazz FM and Worldwide FM.

Neto brings the album to the stage with his seven-piece band across three shows this August, with local support acts joining him in each city.

Last month I did an artist residency on this beautiful property - it was dreamy!
Jo & Steve (the hosts) are absolute legends, which made the whole experience even more special.
I was there mainly to focus on writing #album2, and I’m feeling very excited about it! #album1 is done now and the first single is coming out soon 👀

A year ago I was in Brazil, what a special trip. It was the first time it felt really difficult to return to Australia.
Living abroad has been both beautiful and sad, at the same time. Two things I miss the most from my trip: speaking in Portuguese more and the simple joy of sharing every meal with someone.
In contrast to that, I have to say life has been pretty exciting lately. Here are some cute pics from that trip

Salve! I’m playing this cute & intimate gig at the end of the month right on Brunswick St (Fitzroy). We’ll play a bunch of beautiful covers as well as some originals - we just wanna get together and play some Brazilian stuff, you know!
