On a day where we welcomed the new £4.5 million Production Fund that we hope will turbocharge homegrown and incoming production across Bristol and the West, our Manager Adela Straughan also had the pleasure of facilitating a very special tour of The Bottle Yard for senior figures and Councillors from Somerset Council and South Gloucestershire Council.

Local authorities play a vital role in supporting the film & TV sector - particularly through the often overlooked work of Film Office staff and key depts like Highways & Parking. Together, they help attract filming & smooth the way for busy shoots on the ground to run as easily as possible. It's what keeps our stunning SW locations competitive.

The hub for so many productions filming across the region, is often Bristol's very own Bottle Yard. Take new film Bad Apples starring Oscar-nominee Saoirse Ronan as a prime example. With production base and sets at TBYS, filming took place on location across Bristol, Bath & Somerset, all with Film Office support.

Together our offering is stronger, and Councils understand that each shoot brings economic and cultural benefits to a local area. We always enjoy showing decision makers around the Studios so they can better understand the role it plays as the major hub for the SW's film industry.

Thanks to:
Somerset Council: Cllr Mike Rigby (Lead member for Economic Development, Skills and Climate), Paul Hickson (Service Director for Economic Development, Skills and Climate), Dr James Gilgrist (Head of Economic Prosperity) and Mark Ford (Head of Screen Somerset)
South Gloucestershire Council: Cllr Ian Boulton (Co-Leader of South Gloucestershire), Kirstie Trueman (Economic Development Officer).

Thanks to our BCC partners The Bottle Yard Studios (Katherine Nash, Emma Reid) and Bristol Council's Philip Walker (Head of Culture & Creative Industries), Cllr Andrew Brown (Chair of the Bristol Economy & Skills Committee), Alfie Thomas (Policy Committee Chair Strategic Advisor) for joining. And particular thanks to the brilliant Jane Coulter who outlined the truly amazing impact of the @AllSetWest programme! taken in The Bottle Yard Studios by @allsetwest

We were so proud that our All Set West alumni Zubair Niwaz, Jay Adlam and Patricia Natividad were invited to join the @mayorhelengodwin at Bristol Old Vic yesterday, to launch Greenlight West, the region's new £4.5 million production fund!

Zubair, Jay, Patricia and the brilliant Holly Parfitt from @bristolfilmschool_boomsatsuma (whose recent doc Soil Survivors won the national 'Saving the Planet' award at the Royal Television Society Student Awards 👏), all sat down with the Mayor to talk more about what it's really like to be starting out in this industry - the good bits, the tough bits and everything in between!

Zubair, Patricia and Jay shared the journeys they've been on since their All Set West training, gaining experience on major shoots at @thebottleyardstudios like Rivals, Down Cemetery Road and upcoming BBC drama The Dream Lands, as well as hands-on experience on indie shoots that taught them volumes, for example the excellent BBC short True Love and Wormholes, filmed in Weston-Super-Mare.

The conversation came back time and again to what it's like to forge a career in the freelance world, moving from job to job, finding work and looking out for one another, helping find opportunities across different types of creative projects. For our All Set West alumni, that community mindset is strong - help someone out today, and they may be the person that helps you out tomorrow.

It's great news that to secure Greenlight West funding, production will need to show how they will meaningfully engage locally, with trainees and skills development programmes as well as established crew, companies and facilities. The West of England has a rich pool of local talent ready to go!

"It's like a dream coming true" 👠💙

All Set West helps people from underrepresented backgrounds get real experience in the film and TV industry - including on major productions made right here in the West Country. Nick joined Rivals as a trainee in the locations department and the short placement quickly turned into seven weeks of professional TV experience that he describes as "priceless".

A brilliant example of how local talent and major productions are working together to build real careers here in the West 🎬 by @allsetwest

We're so pleased that Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli are continuing to be completely unreasonable...

The BBC has confirmed that a third and final series of their twisted comedy thriller Am I Being Unreasonable? - filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios and on location in Bristol, Gloucestershire and the West Country with Film Office support - will return to BBC iPlayer and BBC One, picking up where series 2 ended.

Daisy and Selin say: “We’re so excited (and slightly concerned) to return to the mad world of Am I Being Unreasonable? The first two series have been an absolute joy to make and we couldn’t be more grateful to be back for a third time with our incredible cast and crew. There’s a lot to say in this series - some of which we probably shouldn’t - but we’re hoping to end on a high. Even if some of our characters might not...So, stay safe, trust no one and remember to always keep the receipts...”

And, entirely reasonably, the show's producers Boffola Pictures are working with @AllSetWest to offer industry experience to local talent from underrepresented backgrounds 👍

🎬 This is what it’s all about!

Real people. Real talent. Real opportunities.

We had the best time celebrating the return of RIVALS at the Bristol preview @bristoleveryman last week!

We’re so proud to have collaborated with the Rivals production team to support 13 trainees to access onset opportunities.

Our crew didn’t just observe - they actively engaged, learning, contributing and demonstrating their place in the industry.

No gatekeeping. No unnecessary barriers. Just hands-on experience, working alongside seasoned professionals.

This is how you build something meaningful.

🔥 Greater access
🔥 Stronger representation
🔥 More diverse voices on set

We just can’t get enough! Read more at the article link in bio.
