Jane Coulter (@AllSetWest Programme Manager) headed out to beautiful @GalwayCityofFilm in Ireland last month, for this year’s annual meeting of the @UNESCO Cities of Film Subnetwork. Hosted by @Ardan_ie, which manages the Galway UNESCO City of Film designation, the two day event (28-30 Sept) welcomed representatives from Sofia, Gdynia, Bradford, Valladolid, Bristol, Łódź, Cannes, Potsdam, Terrassa, São Paulo, Busan, Yamagata and Qingdao 🌎 In her guest blog, Jane reflects on the themes that resonated throughout the trip, of cultural identity, regional talent and pride in place - and also reveals the exciting news that Bristol has been selected as host city for the next meeting in 2027, our tenth anniversary year! 👏 Read it via the link in our bio 🔗 Now that Galway has passed the host city baton to Bristol, we look forward to building a strong programme for our visitors in 2027. One that will showcase the many strengths of our city as a world-class centre for film and the moving image, whilst sharing a taste of the exciting and varied work generated by the talent based here 💫

Romance, revelry and revenge.... Disney+ has unveiled the full trailer for the return of Rivals Season 2, offering a taste of what to expect from the rest of the series when it returns with a three-episode premiere on Wednesday 11 November 👠 As the return to the scandal and excess of 1987 edges closer, the residents of Rutshire reunite for more revelry, rivalry and romance, but as the stakes ramp-up they must face tragedy, heartbreak, backstabbing, and betrayal head on. Mission well and truly accomplished Disney+, we're on tenterhooks! Production of the hit Hulu Original series, based on Dame Jilly Cooper’s beloved Rutshire Chronicles, is proudly based at The Bottle Yard Studios’ TBY2 facility, with 95% of the locations featured in the series filmed within a 30-mile radius across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, all supported by the fantastic network of Film Offices across the West of England 🎬 Read more via the link in our bio 🔗 (Trailer courtesy Disney+) #filmedinBristol #filmedinthewest - with Bristol Film Office, All Set West, Bristol UNESCO City of Film, Bristol City Council, West of England Mayoral Authority

On a day where we welcomed the new £4.5 million Production Fund that we hope will turbocharge homegrown and incoming production across Bristol and the West, our Manager Adela Straughan also had the pleasure of facilitating a very special tour of The Bottle Yard for senior figures and Councillors from Somerset Council and South Gloucestershire Council. Local authorities play a vital role in supporting the film & TV sector - particularly through the often overlooked work of Film Office staff and key depts like Highways & Parking. Together, they help attract filming & smooth the way for busy shoots on the ground to run as easily as possible. It's what keeps our stunning SW locations competitive. The hub for so many productions filming across the region, is often Bristol's very own Bottle Yard. Take new film Bad Apples starring Oscar-nominee Saoirse Ronan as a prime example. With production base and sets at TBYS, filming took place on location across Bristol, Bath & Somerset, all with Film Office support. Together our offering is stronger, and Councils understand that each shoot brings economic and cultural benefits to a local area. We always enjoy showing decision makers around the Studios so they can better understand the role it plays as the major hub for the SW's film industry. Thanks to: Somerset Council: Cllr Mike Rigby (Lead member for Economic Development, Skills and Climate), Paul Hickson (Service Director for Economic Development, Skills and Climate), Dr James Gilgrist (Head of Economic Prosperity) and Mark Ford (Head of Screen Somerset) South Gloucestershire Council: Cllr Ian Boulton (Co-Leader of South Gloucestershire), Kirstie Trueman (Economic Development Officer). Thanks to our BCC partners The Bottle Yard Studios (Katherine Nash, Emma Reid) and Bristol Council's Philip Walker (Head of Culture & Creative Industries), Cllr Andrew Brown (Chair of the Bristol Economy & Skills Committee), Alfie Thomas (Policy Committee Chair Strategic Advisor) for joining. And particular thanks to the brilliant Jane Coulter who outlined the truly amazing impact of the @AllSetWest programme!

See yourself in the credits: We're excited to announce that Watershed is delivering the brand-new BFI Film Academy Hub in the South West! Watershed has been a part of BFI Film Academy for over 12 years, helping thousands of young people take their first steps into screen careers, and we are proud to continue this into an exciting new chapter. Supported by the UK Government and National Lottery funding, we're working with partners across the South West to help 16-25-year-olds explore opportunities and take their first steps into film and TV. This includes launching Introductory Courses with Somerset Film, Screen Cornwall and City Eye - three brilliant organisations helping us widen access to training and give even more young people a route into the industry, closer to home. We’re also looking forward to continuing collaborations with regional partners such as All Set West to help young people navigate their entry into film and TV. Ready to get started? Over the coming weeks, we’ll be developing our programme of courses, talks and events (plus our annual Inside Screen event in Spring), so follow @takepart_ws on Instagram and sign up to our monthly newsletter via the link in bio to keep updated with opportunities. #takepart #bfi #filmacademy #southwest #watershed BFI Film Academy South West logo with text ‘Your Future (underlined) in Film and TV starts here (circled)’
