POSTS STORIES REELS

❤️ Our children deserve care, not criminalization. They deserve to be seen, heard, protected, and given every opportunity to thrive.

This past Saturday, we brought together community members, parents, caregivers, educators, and participants from our Parents & Practitioners for Liberation (PPL) Learning Lab for a special #ConsciousCinema screening of the #PreschooltoPrison documentary at BLU Art & Wellness Gallery in Downtown Long Beach.

🎬 This powerful Emmy Award-winning documentary, directed by Dr. Karen Baptiste and produced by Empress Films, exposes how systemic racism, implicit bias, and punitive school discipline policies can push Black and Brown children, some as young as two years old, into the school-to-prison pipeline.

Following the film, we came together for community dialogue about the adultification of Black children, the criminalization of normal childhood behaviors, and what it means to replace punishment and exclusion with compassion, understanding, and care.

For our PPL Learning Lab participants, the evening was also an opportunity to connect these issues to liberated parenting, childhood development, healing, and our collective responsibility to protect Black childhood.

These conversations matter because changing harmful systems begins with recognizing what our children need, questioning practices we’ve been taught to accept, and building relationships that make collective action possible.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their perspectives, and helped create a space for learning, reflection, and connection. Special appreciation to BLU Art & Wellness Gallery for providing a welcoming space for our community.

Our children are not problems to be punished. They are our future, and their brilliance deserves to be nurtured.

Through Conscious Cinema and the PPL Learning Lab, we’re continuing to create spaces where powerful stories spark critical conversations, strengthen relationships, and inspire action.

❤️ Every child deserves to be loved, nurtured, protected, and given the opportunity to thrive. Our children deserve schools that see their brilliance, honor their humanity, and respond to their needs with care, not punishment.

But what happens when normal childhood behavior is treated like a crime?

🎬 Join us for our next Conscious Cinema screening, as we show: PRESCHOOL TO PRISON, an Emmy Award-winning documentary directed by Dr. Karen Baptiste and produced by Empress Films. @preschooltoprisondoc

The film exposes how the school-to-prison pipeline can begin with children as young as two years old, disproportionately harming Black and Brown children, especially those with disabilities. Through powerful personal stories and expert insights, we examine how systemic racism, implicit bias, and harsh disciplinary policies turn opportunities for learning and growth into punishment, exclusion, and criminalization.

📅 Saturday, October 24 | 5:30–8:30 PM

📍 BLU Art & Wellness Gallery | 580 Pine Ave., Downtown Long Beach

🎟️ FREE & OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY

Following the film, we'll come together for a community conversation about how parents, caregivers, educators, advocates, and neighbors can challenge harmful practices and build schools rooted in dignity, healing, belonging, and care.

Our children are not problems to be punished. They are full of potential, worthy of protection, and deserving of every opportunity to flourish.

Bring your family, friends, educators, and anyone who believes in a better future for our children.

The CA voter registration deadline is Oct 19 and most people don’t know they can still register after a conviction. 🗳️

If you’ve been recently released, or you’re just not sure whether your rights have been restored, that information gap is real and it matters. A lot of people assume they lost their vote permanently when they didn’t.

We Got This LBC is hosting a free, nonpartisan voter registration drive at MLK Park in Long Beach on Saturday, October 10th from 10am to 2pm. 📍 They’ll have Wi-Fi for online registration, paper forms, and people who can actually walk you through restored voting rights questions.

You can register if you’re a U.S. Citizen and California resident who will be 18 by Election Day and are not currently serving a state or federal prison term for a felony. 📋

The deadline is nine days after this event so the timing is intentional. 👏

Share this with someone in Long Beach who needs to see it before October 19th. #getoutthevote

✊🏾 All 14 statewide propositions explained in plain language

🗳️ What voting YES or NO actually means

💰 Who’s funding the campaigns

🔎 How the measures connect to housing, education, public resources, justice, and our everyday lives

💡 Questions that help you think critically about what’s at stake

No political endorsements. No telling you how to vote. Just information, context, and questions worth asking.

Your vote is yours. Understanding what’s on your ballot matters.

Explore the guide, share it with your people, and bring your questions to the conversation.
