Have you tried our endive yet? Endive is newly launched at Hawker as part of our Spring menu. It grows similarly to forced rhubarb, ie, completely in the dark once it sprouts. It was discovered by fluke- when a farmer returned from war and found their stored chicory roots had sprouted into something edible and yummy. Here at Hawker, Leah is braising them, reducing a bit of their inherent bitterness, and serving up a delicious cold fresh bite with pickled pioppino mushrooms, pea and cucumber broth, and chili + sweet pea cream. 📈 COMMENCING NO.5 —— OPERATION HUNGOVER CABARET 📈 We’re raising money for Project: Humanity, a local Toronto initiative empowering youth through artistic opportunities. This year, we’re witnessing the unbecoming of an office holiday party. Come in your corporate worst, your HR nightmares’ dream outfit, or maybe just throw on a pair of funky holiday socks and call it a night. Whether it’s catching the hot, hot tea by the water cooler or lingering under the mistletoe... there’s something for everyone. ⏱️: December 14th, 2025 📍: Cake Cabaret (627 Danforth Avenue) 🎉: An evening of fun, performances, networking, and theatre-coded shenanigans. More about Hungover: Hungover Cabaret was first conceptualized and organized in 2020 by a small group of university students during the late-stage cabin-fever of the pandemic. We’d spent a large portion of our creative undergrad degrees locked away on our laptops and in our musty apartments. The allure of day drinking and going a few too many days without showering had lost its briefly-held glory. The lockdowns slowly ceased, events in person became a possibility once more, and a small crew of pandemic-hungover experimental creatives set out to bring people together again. Each year, we organize a cabaret show full of theater and musical performers. We volunteer our time to organize, direct, market, choreograph, and perform the show. We sell tickets, raise money for a great cause, have a few drinks on a Sunday evening (because often folks in theatre have Mondays off), and we sing our little hearts out together. This year, we’re trying to scale our event to it’s biggest, warmest, and most successful yet. It feels imperative to choose a locally operated organization this year. We are raising money for Project Humanity. They believe that the arts are a critical tool to respond to trauma, decrease isolation, and support social emotional wellbeing. Inside a deserted suburban greenhouse, ten teenagers are bound by secrets they cannot escape. As whispers spread and shadows grow, a mysterious plague seeps into their lives, forcing them to confront the choices they’ve made—and the ghosts they’ve left behind. Inspired by The Decameron, Concord Floral collides the ordinary with the surreal: text messages and late-night walks are pierced by visions, while the safety of friendship fractures into betrayal, fear, and reckoning. Staged in the round, the production blends live and pre-recorded dialogue with music, image, and gesture to create a space for physical, non-traditional, narrative-bending storytelling, offering a version of CONCORD FLORAL like you have never experienced before. Think Kidd Pivot meets Frantic Assembly meets I Know What You Did Last Summer. Concord Floral runs approx. 75 minutes with no intermission. ✨Our Zeffy is live!✨ Pucker’s Presents: Concord Floral October 8–12, 2025 at The Theatre Centre Artistic Director Steven Hao didn’t get the grant we were counting on — but we’re doing the show anyway! Pucker’s is thrilled to bring Jordan Tannahill’s Concord Floral back to The Theatre Centre for the first time since its celebrated 2014 premiere. This ambitious reimagining speaks to a new generation, blending dance and mixed-media performance into the award-winning play. Theatre is expensive. While our funding fell flat, our determination has not. Your donation will directly support 20 independent artists working to make this show happen and help cover: Rehearsal and performance space Insurance Crew wages Sets, props, and costumes Technical equipment By supporting Concord Floral, you are investing not only in a powerful and relevant production, but also in Pucker’s., a new company led by Steven Hao and Allison MacKenzie that is ready to take Toronto by storm. WHAT YOU’RE SUPPORTING Concord Floral is a chilling, poetic play by Jordan Tannahill about ten suburban teens who turn an abandoned greenhouse into their sanctuary. This compelling narrative about guilt, identity, and adolescence remains transcendentally relevant even today. Our production stages the play in the round with movement and mixed-media performance, blending dance, sound, and layered voices to reflect the ways teens hide, connect, and reveal themselves. Set against the backdrop of a looming plague, Concord Floral mirrors our own post-pandemic world. It asks what it means to grow up in a time of fear, isolation, and inherited responsibility — a story that speaks directly to a new generation.
