POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Had a great time labrishing with these incredible storytellers yesterday at Black British Book Festival on our Writing Windrush Forward Panel. And when we finished working the Green Room lime was sublime!

Thanks to The Voice Newspaper for the invite, to @meline_fashions for the skirt, @cooyahclothing for the jacket and @neoma_design for the handbag.

Rejection, Reggae, Resistance and Resilience! A story of survival, of succeeding against the odds, of lost and found identity. This is the story of Alex Wheatle’s life. You won’t regret this read.

Great discussion with @elle.andthebooks about her book Remember Remember.

If you like fast pace, if you like historical fiction, if you like an interesting range of characters, this is for you. And if you think historical fiction isn’t your thing this is probably a good entry to the genre as the writing and storytelling are really accessible.

Remember remember to support your local independent bookshops and libraries.

Got a notification in my calendar yesterday to remind me that today is my son’s 18th birthday. That wasn’t necessary. Not least because it marks my own anniversary on the parenting journey A moment in time indelibly printed on my mind.

However, more importantly all year long the reminders of moving forward to this legal age of adulthood in the UK have been flowing uncontrollably into our existence. He started his final year of school, passed his driving test, received university offers, embarked on solo travel, got the razor out more frequently😀 amongst other things. It’s been a lot to process but I am pleased for him. He is ‘lifeing’ through the stages in his own way as it should be. All credit to the village as always.

I don’t know who decided that 18 was an appropriate age to be considered an adult. What I do know is that no matter what privileges the law affords young people at 18 the question for each parent is:

“Is MY child ready to fledge?”

Don’t let the law dictate the timing of your parenting. Let your child show you. I’m watching mine, processing and learning.

Happy 18th birthday Eli! May your blessings continue to flow and shine through you out into the world. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ by @allybambooks

What a treat of an evening at @afroribooks with the very entertaining, talented fashionista @marxia1.
So many stories in her head that I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us but for now go and grab yourself a copy of The Mercy Step from your nearest independent bookshop.
