Earlier this month, Alpha Chapter had the opportunity to attend the 37th annual NYACOA Conference in Harlem, NY, alongside other chapters from the NY District.

The Conference was a tremendous success, with opportunities to meet brothers from peer Chapters throughout the state, reconnect with Alpha Chapter prophytes, attend powerful workshops, and vote on matters ensuring our district’s continued success.

Please join us in congratulating Bro. Jeremy Henderson (A-SP24-1) on being elected to serve as NYACOA’s Historian for the upcoming term, continuing the Chapter’s standard of serving at the highest levels.

Moreover, Bro. Tyler Japal (A-FA25-2), joined by Bro. Colin Michael (A-SP24-4), proudly represented the Upstate Team in their victory during the College Brothers Scholar’s Bowl for the second year in a row. Additionally, Bro. Christian Flournoy (A-SP24-3) helped judge for the annual oratorical competition.

We are proud to announce that Alpha Chapter has been recognized as Chapter of the Year by the New York Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. We also celebrate Bro. Jeremy Henderson (A-SP24-1), who has been named College Brother of the Year.

These accomplishments would not be possible without the guidance and unwavering support of our incredible campus advisor, Bro. Gavin Mosley, who has concurrently been named Alumni Brother of the Year. Bro. Mosley’s dedication to Alpha Chapter and continued investment in the development of our brothers have played an invaluable role in helping us uphold the standard of our dear fraternity.

These honors reflect Alpha Chapter’s continued commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, and brotherhood, while recognizing the brothers whose work continues to advance the Aims of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Recently, Bro. Colin Michael (A-SP24-4) was grateful for the opportunity to donate stem cells to a blood cancer patient through the NMDP registry.

Bro. Michael first learned about NMDP through its awareness campaign at Cornell this past spring and was paired in August with a genetically compatible match, a patient battling acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

We encourage others to support the NMDP chapter at Cornell @nmdp.cornell and to join the donor registry—it’s as simple as a quick cheek swab. There are still countless patients who haven’t found a match, so every additional donor on the registry could offer someone a potential second chance at life.

Last weekend, Bro. Michael (SP24), Bro. Green (SP26), Bro. Singleton (SP26), and Bro. Hoereth (SP26) were grateful to attend the Eastern Region College Brothers Retreat at Rowan University, with the Nu Iota Chapter serving as host.

The retreat provided an outstanding opportunity for leadership development, exchange of ideas, meaningful connections, and brotherhood. Throughout the weekend, our Brothers also supported Bro. Green in his role as the Assistant Director of Education for the Eastern Region.

We look forward to bringing this insight and leadership back to our communities, and continuing to Hold the Light High. ‘06🤙🏾 taken in Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ by @alphachapter06

Still thinking about O-Week?

Last week, we welcomed the newest class of freshmen to campus! As we reflect on the week, we wanted to highlight the work the Brothers of the Alpha Chapter put in to ensure we continue serving our community through mentorship, guidance, and meaningful engagement.

From welcoming new students to creating spaces for connection and support, O-Week was all about helping the newest members of our community start their Cornell journey on the right foot.

Special thanks to Dr. Renee Alexander for her continued support and dedication to Black life at Cornell. Sharing space with a living legend gave our freshmen a one-of-a-kind opportunity to connect with Cornell’s Black history and hear firsthand about the experiences and legacy of Black students before us. taken in Cornell University by @alphachapter06
