Every side tells a story.
The Model 1’s caseback features a stamped Poincaré disk, a nod to the hyperbolic geometry that inspired the design. It frames a sapphire porthole with a view to the balance wheel in motion.

Because the back should be just as considered as the front.

The first idea for the Model 1 came when I was 18.
For years it existed as little more than a sketch, followed by some fairly questionable student prototypes. Eventually, I came back to it and started turning the idea into something I could actually wear.
More than ten years after that first sketch, it became the Model 1. by @alpharo_uk

Why does the Alpharo Model 1 have no seconds hand?
During the design process we tried adding a curved seconds hand to the watch, but it completely changed the way the eye perceived the three-dimensional spiral dial.
Removing it made the design work again. The caseback porthole still lets you see the Miyota 9039 movement running.
Sometimes watch design is as much about knowing what to leave out as what to add. by @alpharo_uk

Probably one of the nicest reactions I could have hoped for when showing someone the Model 1 for the first time.
And apparently I was lucky to get the watch back.

Why are watch hands straight?

The Alpharo Model 1 is a 38mm automatic watch built around an unusual idea: curved watch hands and a three-dimensional spiral dial designed around them.

The idea started more than ten years ago with a simple question about conventional watch design. If watch hands don’t have to be straight, what happens when you redesign the whole watch around the curve?

That question eventually became the Model 1. by @alpharo_uk

This release is limited by current movement availability, with only a small number of watches available from the current batch.

Cyclone White. A silver bead-blasted dial that appears frosted white with a metallic sparkle under bright sunlight. Heat-blued hands reflect flashes of light from navy to bright blue. Blued polished cabochon markers at 12 complete the design.
