On Friday, we celebrated the pre-release of the @minimwatches x @artisandhorlogerie Yang collaboration in the best way the watch community knows how: with a meet-up.

As always, there were plenty of great conversations flowing and new watches to discover.

I recently got to meet Alexander Ryan, the owner of Alpharo watches, and a very nice chap, naturally passionate about horology and his watch. And I got to try on one of his watches, a Model 1 in Maelstrom Blue. It’s a two hand 38mm Miyota 9039 powered watch with a very distinctive design and is a slim 9.8mm. But it’s the combination of the dial and hands, working together in a geometric dance that are the stars of this show. The dial is a 3D spiral, and has translucent lacquer with a fumé gradient. It changes as the light moves and is beautiful and very striking. The curved hands echo the dial below. The curved skeleton hands are very unusual and make you think about where they are pointing.

The caseback is also inspired by geometry, non-Euclidean, and is a debossed Poincaré disk, with a sapphire exhibition porthole over the balance wheel to see the heart. A useful feature to know its running easily, as there is no seconds hand .

It all comes together as a cohesive design by a man clearly driven to think outside the box, and not constrained by convention. And yet despite that, Alexander has still managed to produced a very classic watch. Quite an achievement for a first watch.

It’s designed and assembled in the UK, and also comes in Cyclone White and Galaxy Black, and will be available again from this Thursday 22nd October for a very reasonable £715.00.

A room full of great watches, good people and even better conversation. It was a pleasure to host this private gathering with @themeridiancircle_london, @happyhorologists and @beyondordinaire.

A big thank you to the representatives from @czapekgeneve, @lederertimepieces, @langeheyne, @j.s.watchmaking, @rudyssilva and @alpharo_uk for bringing their watches and sharing the stories behind them. Add good food and drinks to the mix, and it made for a fantastic afternoon 🥂

This week was a special week! I had the honour os interviewing Máxime HERBELIN, one of the grand sons of Michel HERBELIN the founder of @herbelin_officiel watches, part owner and marketing director of the company. This week he came to London and not just I was invited to interview him but we had a conversation and I was gifted a beautiful watch from HERBELIN. The 300m Newport Diver, one of the best selling watches of the historical company that is still privately owned.
It was a fantastic appreciation of my work and I am incredibly honoured by having this opportunity.
Creating content isn’t easy and in many times disappointing and moments like this remind us to never doubt yourself and never stop chasing your dreams. And this is what this watch represents to me.
Thank you very much HERBELIN and all of those that made this possible.

I haven’t done a #watchwishlist post in quite a while and a number of events in the first half of the year have caused some considerable growth in said list.
My wishlist expands on a daily basis and is non-exhaustive, so this is just kind of snapshot of pieces currently on the top of my mind. Hardly anything ever drops off the list completely, it’s just joined by new additions.
Would I ever want to own my entire wishlist?? Of course, but when I would ever wear them all? Watches are made to be worn and enjoyed not stored in a box forever. And half of the fun in this hobby is in the wanting, yearning and planning!

I’ve met Alex from @alpharo_uk at a previous watch event and was immediately impressed by his debut watch the Model 1, so it was great to get hands on with it again at #southamptonwatchshow . The curved hands flow beautifully around the spiral fume dial and the translucency of the lacquer changes with every angle of the light. With a very interesting caseback and super reliable Miyota 9039 automatic movement, this is a great value and absolutely stunning watch .
Aaand now the Maelstrom Blue is very firmly on my wishlist!

Definitely a little late in posting this but the first ever #southamptonwatchshow from @thewatchcc was an epic event, great venue, fantastic range of brands plus (and I’m not sure I ever mentioned this), it was actually walking distance from my house!
Now it was totally impossible to narrow it down to one absolute favourite but I did think I’d get down into single digits- I think it’s easy to see what happened to my wishlist this weekend! So here’s a handful of the amazing pieces that grabbed my attention on the day.
