Thanking Our Extraordinary ALS BC Community

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, our hearts turn to reflection, appreciation, and the power of community. It is a meaningful time to pause and honour the bonds that unite us, the support that sustains us, and the shared hope guiding our mission forward.

Whether you have donated, volunteered, organized a fundraiser, sponsored an initiative, or shared stories to raise awareness, your actions, both big and small, make a profound difference. Every gesture of kindness directly touches the lives of individuals and families living with ALS and PLS in BC and the Yukon, ensuring that no one has to navigate their journey alone.

The ALS Society of BC's office will be closed on Monday, October 12th, 2026, in observance of Thanksgiving Day, and will reopen on Tuesday, October 13th, at 8:00am.

Wishing you and your loved ones a warm, safe, and happy Thanksgiving Day!

Record-breaking support from our local heroes! πŸš’βœ¨

Huge thanks to @vanfirecharities for raising a record $50,000 for the ALS Society of BC through this year's annual ALS Shoot for the Cure and Vancouver Firefighters Hockey Club events! 🎯

For over 20 years, Vancouver Firefighters have been true champions for families living with ALS across British Columbia. 100% of the proceeds from these incredible events go toward vital patient programs and services and fund critical research toward a cure through ALS BC Project Hope at the University of British Columbia.

To every firefighter, participant, volunteer, and sponsor, thank you for standing with us in the fight to end ALS! πŸ’œ

Golfing for something bigger than the game. πŸ’™β›³οΈ

We’re proud to recognize G.P. Denomme and Norm Jackson for representing Cowichan Golf Club in the 2026 PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS.

For G.P., this cause carries a deeply personal meaning, making every hole played and every dollar raised that much more significant.

There’s still time to support their efforts and help individuals and families impacted by ALS. Every donation makes a difference.

πŸ•οΈ From August 20th–23rd, youths and dedicated volunteers gathered at Camp Summit in Squamish, BC, for our annual summer retreat for children and teens affected by a family member's ALS diagnosis.

Campers tackled everything from high ropes and archery to rock climbing and mountain biking. Even a Saturday night thunderstorm couldn't dampen the group’s high energy and bright spirits!

Beyond the thrilling activities, Camp Alohi Lani provides a vital space for emotional healing. Through "Support Circles," campers shared their journeys, processed complex emotions, and were reminded that they are never alone.

πŸ’œ Thank You to Our 2026 Sponsors. This life-changing, fully-funded experience is made possible entirely through community generosity. Deep gratitude to: Air Canada Foundation, Ames Family Foundation, Andrew Mahon Foundation, CIBC Foundation, CKNW Kid’s Fund, The Dayhu Family Foundation, Fraternal Order of Eagle Cranbrook #3032, Kiwanis Club of Oliver, The Kiwanis Club of Vancouver, Purcell Family, RBC Foundation, and Royal Canadian Legion #256.

Challenge accepted, ALS Society of Alberta! 🧊πŸͺ£πŸ’™

Our team at the ALS Society of BC took the plunge for the 2026 Ice Bucket Challenge, and we're keeping the momentum going strong!

Why did we do it? To raise awareness for the over 500 individuals who are living with ALS across British Columbia and the Yukon. ALS is a terminal neurological disease that takes away a person's ability to move, walk, and eventually breathe. Without support programs & services like our Equipment Loan Program, families can face up to $160,000 in costs to fight this disease.

Through ALS BC Project Hope, we are also proud to help fund critical research and clinical trials at the ALS & Related Disorders Research Centre at UBC to help bring us closer to a cure.

πŸ‘‰ NOW IT'S YOUR TURN! πŸ‘ˆ We are officially calling out the amazing teams at: πŸ₯Ό The ALS & Related Disorders Clinic πŸ”¬ The ALSRD Research Centre at UBC. Take the challenge and pass the bucket forward! Let's keep this momentum going! 🌊⚑️

πŸ’™ How you can help: Learn more about our programs and services or make a donation today at www.alsbc.ca (Link in bio!).
