It’s been over two months of tinnitus. I’ve tried so many meds I feel like I could run a pharmacy out of my bathroom. Occasionally I get some ok days, but most days are borderline insufferable, and almost make the good days worse because it feels like false hope. I’m taking Valium now for sleep, which helps a bit but also means I feel exhausted literally all the time. My irritability is almost uncontrollable but I have to stay calm for the dogs and continue to work a full time job. I have a hearing aid trial on the 21st and an appointment with a specialist at U Washington on March 7th and I have no idea how much money (that I don’t have or wish I could be saving for “more important” things) I’ve spent on this with no solid answers, no clues to why, and no plan for treatment. I am exhausted. Mentally, physically, emotionally. Sounds hurt, which means I isolate even more than I normally do as an introvert. Crowded places are overwhelming, I can’t hear the person I’m talking to if I’m in an environment with other noise, sounds seem distorted and I can’t tell where they are coming from which makes me feel disoriented in my surroundings. It is difficult to find joy which I know makes me unpleasant to be around for those that have to be. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

Checked out Chilkoot lake today hoping to watch some brown bear fishing action. No bears at the fishing spot, but this lake was gorgeous! And I did peep a bear on our way out, my first brown bear of the trip!

Not even going to try to pretend to not post them all. The camera makes the reds a bit more vibrant than they were to the naked eye, but still a pretty magical show. And the most red I’ve ever been able to see here. It was worth being a zombie today.

Another day, another trip to the glacier.

Decided to take an impromptu afternoon off to try to make it across the lake one more time before temps rise and rain returns. We’d seen this larger cave on the last trip but the weather made us weary to attempt entry. Today was pretty much perfect and it was so neat in there!

I still get giddy every time I get to walk across the lake. It’s crazy how much the glacier has changed even in the short time I’ve lived in Juneau, I feel thankful I’ve been able to cross almost every year and gaze at the magnificence of the ice.
