Taiki’s first prolonged absence from home was particularly difficult for Shiina. For an entire month, he was away working at the harbor and traveling across the sea, while she remained in Sunagakure, missing him terribly.
Having been so accustomed to his presence since childhood, suddenly being unable to see him, hear his voice, or simply reach for his hand left an emptiness in her everyday life. But it was not only the loneliness that troubled her; it was also the constant worry. Sea voyages could be unpredictable, and Shiina, with her sensitive nature and remarkable talent for imagining the worst possible scenarios, often found herself frightened that something terrible might happen to him.
Some nights, she lay awake beneath the quiet skies of the Land of Wind, tears slipping down her cheeks as she wondered where he was, whether he was safe, and if he missed her as much as she missed him. Far away, aboard his ship, Taiki often found himself gazing up at those very same stars, his thoughts inevitably wandering back to the shy girl waiting for him at home.
Despite his lifelong love for freedom, adventure, and the open sea, he was beginning to understand that even the most beautiful places felt a little less wonderful without Shiina beside him. He missed her familiar smile, her laughter, her cold hands intertwined with his, and even the way she blushed whenever he unexpectedly showed her affection.
Separated by miles of desert and ocean, they nevertheless found each other in their thoughts beneath the same night sky - Shiina with her melancholic longing and occasional tears, Taiki with a gentle smile and an aching heart. And although the distance was difficult, both found comfort in knowing that every passing night brought them closer to the moment when they could finally fall into each other's arms again.

When Team Shikaku and Inoichi were called to the Hokage’s office, they were expecting everything but a rank S mission. After receiving the mission details, the two teams had to analyze documents and reports from other missions to try to locate where Orochimaru’s possible hideout might be, with the aim of finding Yoshino Wakaba, who was kidnapped after his parents made a deal with the sannin to save their child.
His parents did it out of despair, not thinking about the consequences. After doctors told them their son was a lost cause, and they wouldn’t be able to help him, they were absolutely devastated. Nothing mattered as long as Yoshino would survive. A pair of eyes for the children’s ‘medical ‘ care was what was asked.

Yoshino felt an unpleasant sensory on his chest and an emotion he couldn’t quite explain. It wasn’t as painful as he used to feel but he knew something weird was happening to him.
During his unconscious times, voices emerged in his mind. Something about weakness and being useless but he didn’t quite catch that. As his eyes opened slowly, he felt a liquid moving around his body-
He moved his hand in front of him, trying to distinguish the environment around him. Glass. There was a glass, he was stuck.
As he slowly got aware he instantly took a deep breath and felt his lungs pop, suddenly he felt the liquid invading his body as his gasping looking for air was a failure, he was suffocating.
That was until he felt his body lowering and noticed the liquid escaping the glass jail. As he coughed in hope of rejecting the fluids that were once around him, a hand reached for his head. He couldn’t really distinguish who it was, or if it was a woman or a man. Although their features seemed quite soft their voice didn’t match their looks.
‘Kabuto, take the kid to a room.’
At that moment, the familiar distress that emerged into him appeared again. He remembered where he was.

The first volume of Yozoru’s story takes place seven years before the start of Naruto, meaning Yozoru is around sixteen or seventeen years old. In this first chapter, Inoichi and Shikaku are tasked with their first joint mission: rescuing Yoshino Wakaba, who has supposedly been kidnapped by Orochimaru.
Yoshino is a seven-year-old boy suffering from a cardiovascular condition. Despite his parents’ best efforts to treat him, no one is qualified enough to help. They sought help in Konoha, but Tsunade, the only one who could likely have made a difference, no longer lived there. As for the other doctors, they stated that, given Yoshino’s fragility, even if they managed to find him a compatible heart, his survival was not guaranteed.
In despair, his mother made the decision to entrust him to one of the most feared men in Konoha at that time: Orochimaru. Who, of course, took advantage of the situation to study the Wakaba clan and their Kekkei Genkkai.

Taiki and Shiina's wedding took place at the main port of the Land of Wind, a place that suited them beautifully - especially Taiki, whose love for travel, the sea, and freedom had always been such an important part of who he was.
After spending their wedding day surrounded by their families and the people closest to them, the newlyweds boarded the ship that same evening, beginning the three-month honeymoon they would spend traveling together. Shortly before the ship was scheduled to depart, a fireworks display was held at the harbor in their honor.
Standing side by side at the railing, Taiki and Shiina watched as brilliant bursts of light illuminated the night sky above the port and reflected across the dark water below. For a while, neither of them said anything. Shiina simply stood close to him, still trying to comprehend that after everything they had shared since childhood, Taiki was truly her husband now.
Eventually, Taiki reached for her hand and gently intertwined their fingers. He looked at her for a moment before a quiet, almost disbelieving smile appeared on his face.
“We're married,” he said simply.
Those few words were enough to make Shiina's cheeks turn warm and her eyes begin to shine with emotion. She squeezed his hand, and Taiki leaned toward her, sharing a short, tender kiss with his new wife beneath the light of the fireworks. Moments later, the final explosions faded into the night and the ship slowly began to move.
Still holding hands at the railing, they watched the harbor gradually grow smaller behind them as they sailed out toward the open sea, leaving the Land of Wind behind for three months and beginning their first journey not as childhood friends, best friends, or even simply lovers, but as husband and wife.

Even after years of marriage, Shiina has somehow never become completely accustomed to Taiki's affection.
She knows him better than almost anyone, has shared countless kisses and embraces with him, wakes up beside him and has built an entire life at his side, yet it can still take only one unexpected gesture from her husband to reduce her to the painfully shy girl who once secretly loved her best friend.
If Taiki suddenly leans over and kisses her while she is distracted, wraps his arms around her from behind without warning, comes home with a little gift simply because it reminded him of her, or casually tells her how beautiful she looks, Shiina's face almost inevitably turns bright red. Sometimes she begins stuttering so badly that she can barely form a proper answer; other times she feels unbearably warm, hides her face against him in embarrassment, or simply stands there with her heart racing while Taiki watches her with that familiar, affectionate smile.
Particularly tender gestures can even bring tears to her eyes - not because she is sad, but because Shiina has always experienced her emotions intensely, and being loved so openly by the person who has meant so much to her since childhood can still overwhelm her in the most beautiful way. Taiki naturally finds these reactions endlessly endearing, but he never makes her feel foolish for them; if anything, they only make him more affectionate.
And perhaps Shiina will always be this way with him. No matter how many years pass or how secure she becomes in the knowledge that Taiki loves her, some part of her will forever remain the shy girl whose heart races when her person looks at her with love - and Taiki can still make that girl reappear with nothing more than a sudden kiss, a warm embrace, a thoughtful gift, or a few sincere words.

Even though Taiki needed considerably longer than Shiina to understand that his feelings for her had grown beyond friendship, from the day they finally confessed their love to each other, there has hardly been a single day when he has not shown her just how deeply she is loved.
Affection comes naturally to him, especially with Shiina, and he rarely misses an opportunity to press a gentle kiss to her forehead or cheek, reach for her hand and intertwine their fingers, pull her a little closer, or simply look at her in a way that makes it unmistakably clear how precious she is to him.
Taiki knows how deeply Shiina has struggled with insecurity and self-doubt since childhood, but his affection is never about trying to convince her that she needs to become someone different; instead, he makes her feel cherished exactly as she is, through countless small gestures woven naturally into their everyday life. He compliments her when the thought crosses his mind, tells her when he finds her beautiful, and gives her physical affection without needing a special occasion, because loving Shiina is something he wants her to feel rather than merely know.
And perhaps one of Taiki's favorite things is that even after many years together, he can still make her react almost exactly like the shy girl who first fell in love with him. An unexpected kiss, a sincere compliment whispered without warning, or even a particularly affectionate look can still turn Shiina's cheeks bright red within seconds, leaving her flustered and struggling to respond while Taiki smiles at her with unmistakable fondness.

Taiki and Shiina first met when they were still very young at the Academy, and even then they could hardly have been more different.
Taiki was open, warm-hearted, confident, extroverted, and almost always smiling, while Shiina was painfully shy, introverted, insecure, and easily overwhelmed, often responding to almost everything with tears. She admired him from the very beginning, and Taiki quickly became her first real friend, someone around whom she gradually learned to feel safe and accepted.
Over the years, their friendship only deepened until they became inseparable best friends who knew each other better than almost anyone else, and even Taiki’s three-year journey away from Sunagakure could not weaken that bond. Shiina had secretly feelings for him since she was thirteen, but she never wanted to risk losing the friendship that meant so much to her.
Taiki needed considerably longer to understand his own feelings, and ironically, it was the distance during those three years that finally made him realize just how deeply he missed her and how often his thoughts returned to her: I feel more for her.
When he eventually returned, the familiar closeness between them suddenly carried an entirely different meaning, and it did not take long for years of hidden feelings to finally bring them together.

A few months after they started dating, Taiki began working in supplying the village by sea; A job that required much more time from him than being Shinobi. Two weeks at Sunagakure and almost a month away. Something that worried Shiina a bit, despite being the happiest for Taiki— knowing that she would spend so little time with him filled her with sadness.
Considering that their relationship was quite recent, the fear of having to face the distance was immense. Would they be able to withstand the distance? Would it be possible to maintain their love? And many other questions filled their mind.
For Shiina, the first time Taiki left after they got together was even harder than when he was away for 3 whole years. She often found herself distracted and cried a lot in her room. As for Taiki, despite the excitement of living his dream, he felt an emptiness inside him that couldn’t be filled— his thoughts kept returning to his beloved. That’s why every week, whenever he found the opportunity, he took his quill in hand to write letters to Shiina.
In his letters, he expressed his most sincere love for her, as well as his somewhat repetitive days, and reminded her that he would come back to her soon. For Shiina, his letters were something she cherished, despite the fact she often cried while holding them close to her heart.
Their first reunion after that was full of emotion and marked a rather interesting ritual. Taiki would bring her one flower for each day spent away— something he kept doing. After all, Shiina’s smile after seeing the bouquets, always filled his heart in a way no words could explain it.

Taiki and Shiina had known each other since childhood, beginning as close childhood friends before gradually becoming inseparable best friends.
For shy and sensitive Shiina, Taiki became one of the most important people in her life and someone whose presence always made her feel safe, while Taiki simply loved having her by his side. By the age of thirteen, Shiina's affection had quietly developed into romantic love, although she kept those feelings mostly to herself out of fear that confessing them might change or even cost her the friendship she treasured so deeply.
When Taiki later left Sunagakure on a three-year journey, Shiina remained behind, missing him terribly. She often cried during his absence and struggled with having the person who had been beside her for most of her life suddenly so far away, even though she never wanted to stand in the way of his desire to see the world.
Taiki initially left seeking freedom, new experiences, and a life beyond Suna, but during those years apart, he slowly realized just how much Shiina meant to him. He thought about her constantly at some point, missed all the little things about her, and eventually understood that what he felt was no longer simply the love he had always held for his best friend.
Those feelings ultimately became the reason he returned to Sunagakure at eighteen. Their reunion finally brought everything they had left unspoken to the surface, and after years as childhood friends and best friends, Taiki and Shiina became a couple when he was eighteen and she was seventeen - turning a bond that had shaped nearly their entire childhood into the love that would eventually accompany them throughout their lives.
