i took the leap and never went back 🥀✨
change is scary, but i had to remember that staying the same was scarier, and i knew i wanted more; i wanted creative freedom to make a life where art could support it. if taking a chance has the potential for growth, why not take it?
high risk, high reward, the universe favors the bold ⭐️

medieval gauntlet ⚔️✨
super stoked with how this one came out :) first time doing and designing an etched-style piece so it was a good challenge to take on, but i love medieval fantasy, so i had a fun time from start to finish 💛
really really really happy with it, and i cannot wait to add more of this to my client’s leg! thank you again for the trust!! ⭐️🤺✨

some animals & creatures & things to start the week ✨ i love creating meaningful, permanent art, whether it’s for memories, loved ones, or just personal character customization; it’s another way of self expression and i’m grateful to be the one to do it 💛

chicano nights vol. 4: a culture not erased
absolutely grateful and blessed to be apart of the show, after being a guest the previous 3 volumes. feels surreal and beautiful, to display my culture through my art.
honestly i feel like i wouldn’t be so close and diving deep in learning about my own culture if i weren’t at por vida ink. the way these guys inspire and encourage me is nothing i’ve ever experienced and felt before; something i’ve always yearned for but never knew how. but being around the right people at the right time has tapped into that, and i’m so so so grateful.
i’m very grateful for giana and cesar opening their arms for me to be apart of their crew. 💛

i will be putting up the descriptions i did for the show under each piece in their own caption, so please take the time to read em if you can!

my artist description from the night, which also gives context for my paintings:

My name is Alex Sensanith and I am a first generation Laos American (the food vendors are actually my family!).
If you don’t know, Laos is a southeast Asian country, landlocked between Thailand and Vietnam, with China sitting above and Cambodia under.
This is my first art show with the crew, and I’m very blessed to have the opportunity to showcase my culture and art with you all.
A lot of my pieces are inspired by Theravada Buddhism, as it is the founding religion of Laos/Lan Xang in the 1300s. Theravada Buddhism is the oldest version of Buddhism, holding a lot of historical and ancient context and culture through Laos.
Ancient Laos is always depicted with gold as a symbol of royalty and prosperity, so most of my pieces incorporate gold. I had a lot of fun using different mediums to showcase gold: paper, glue, inks and acrylics, tape—coming up with different ways and combining them was satisfying to explore and execute.

“Mae Thoranee”

Mae Thoranee is Laos’ mother Earth goddess. She is commonly depicted wringing out her long hair, as she uses it to drown out Mara, the demon sent to hinder Buddha’s enlightenment. Buddha summons her by touch taken in Wichita, Kansas by @alx.tatz
