One day I will watch my daughter become a mother, and her need for me will only have expanded.
In those moments—when I comfort her, feed her, change the sheets, organize the caddy—I will be taken back to the quiet nights it was just the two of us lying awake.
I will blink and, for a breath, see nothing else:
the way I once held her body against mine to soothe her cries,
nursed her,
folded her tiny laundry,
packed her small diapers.
I will get to do it all over again—
in a similar way,

This birth was for both of them. For one, it’s how she would start her life. For the other, it’s how this moment would reshape hers.

There’s this unique grace to how @carolmariann occupies a room that makes me think about motherhood. How she honors it as something we move through rather than something we simply arrive at. Sitting by her side for the second time attested to that. She met every demand this labor threw at her, both familiar and new, and let it completely unravel her.

Found that I am my happiest self here.

Met a sweet angel @kianarayphotography who offered to take a couple pictures for us and then I cried happy tears.
