When I was 13, I slipped old family photos from my grandmother’s photo album into my book bag, not to steal, but to hold their stories close. Others, I've collected over the years.

Some ancestors I’ve never met or have pictures of. Others I barely remember. But they still show up... in dreams, in signs, in moments I know are guided by them.

They made mistakes, and unfortunately their choices have shaped generations. Regardless, they were human, and they are mine. With that understanding, I made a conscious choice to break the cycle with my children. And I choose to forgive, honor, and carry them forward. I give thanks to them for the continued blessings and guidance. I am who I am because of them.

I did it! My first @tedx_official at @tedxdeerpark is titled "How You Can Make Your Art Accessible". I not only created my first accessible art exhibition, but I also THE FIRST independent accessible art exhibition to be created. This is the story of my journey, with the hope that other artists will do the same.

Meet DOUEN’s DIT/Production Assistant (Trinidad and Tobago) — Naila @nxiladelrey!

Naila is a business student, real estate agent, content creator, and entrepreneur with a growing interest in media, film production, and the creative industries.

She brings an adaptable, observant, and detail-oriented approach to her work and enjoys being part of collaborative, fast-paced environments where she can learn and contribute.

Outside of film and production, Naila also manages a small food business, volunteers as a tutor, and enjoys creative outlets including crochet, sewing, and photography.

We’re grateful to have had Naila as part of the DOUEN crew and for the energy, flexibility, and support she brought behind the scenes!

Sometimes you have to listen to the feedback without losing sight of your vision.

I wholeheartedly believe that feedback is important. I ask for it because I want to know how people are experiencing the work.

But I've also learned that you don't have to take every piece of feedback and make it a part of your creation. Take it like a grain of salt.

But... sometimes feedback helps you see something you didn't see before.

Sometimes it confirms what you already knew.

And sometimes… it can pull you so far away from your original idea that you don't even recognize what you created anymore.

I've had to learn how to listen, consider it, and then come back to my vision.

Because at the end of the day, it's still my responsibility as the creative to know what I'm trying to say.

Listen. Be open. But don't lose your vision. ❤️
