It was incredibly meaningful to see today’s Wall Street Journal article @wsj celebrating the legacy of Gilt Groupe.

We are deeply proud of what we built—not only the company itself, but the community of people who helped build it and went on to create so much more.

One of the legacies I’m proudest of is what the article calls Gilt’s “female founder mob”: an extraordinary group of women who went on to found companies, build venture firms, and shape the next generation of entrepreneurship.

Alexandra and I used to speculate that New York must have more female founders than anywhere else. So it was especially gratifying to see the data bear that out: according to the Wall Street Journal and PitchBook, New York led the country over the past decade in deal count for female-founded teams raising capital.

Gilt Groupe was an extraordinary journey. At times, it was also a very hard one. But perhaps the most meaningful measure of what we built is everything—and everyone—that came after it.

The company’s legacy lives on in the people who were part of it, the companies they went on to build, and the ecosystem they helped create. Excited to join a group of inspiring women for the event “Portraits of Women in Web3” which will be at NeueHouse in New York on April 13th, 6-9pm. At the event, a series of TED-style talks will feature stories of women using Web3 for impact. That day, @katlaforce will be launching the NFT series “Wonderful Beings” in collaboration with Icelandic artist @hendrikkawaagearts. The Wonderful Beings celebrate women having impact and for Katla that means women who are climate warriors and are contributing to ocean regeneration. 15% of proceeds from the NFTs will go towards seaweed cultivation in Iceland. The technology is powered by ivy.cash.

Thrilled to announce at WebSummit Lisbon yesterday that we will be launching the Wonderful Beings NFTs next week in collaboration with @hendrikkawaagearts and tech company IVY.CASH. 15% of initial sales and ongoing royalties (after taxes and transaction fees) will go towards ocean regeneration. This week I was deeply honored to take on the role of Goodwill Ambassador for Fashion 4 Development. Fashion 4 Development is a global organization founded in cooperation with the office of the United Nations Secretary General to support the UN goals. The role was announced at the First Ladies Luncheon that was hosted by F4D in New York during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. At the same event, it was announced that Katla was the recipient of this year’s F4D award for the company’s work to promote sustainable practices within the fashion industry. The incredible F4D founder Evie Evangelou announced the Goodwill Ambassador role and the F4D award was announced by Icelandic Minister for the Environment and Climate, Gudlaugur Thor Thordarson. Some incredible women spoke and/or received awards during the event including Senator Biaggi of New York, actress and singer Sofia Carson, songwriter Diane Warren, entrepreneur Gina Diez Barroso, philanthropist Sudha Reddy, and other truly inspiring women. F4D also organized a Sustainable Goals Banquet and panel discussions at the Human Kind Film Series at the MoMA this week.
